Combining Multiple Presentations, Audio not Transferring

Sep 23, 2013

Hello,

We created five different learning Modules for a client a while ago and they've recently come back to us asking us to combine all of the modules into one big presentation so that they can track based on the number of slides viewed. I have had this request before, and I've combined all of the presentations just fine for another client, but for some reason, when I try to combine this one, the audio files are not transferring over. I've tried copying small chunks of slides as well as one-by-one but to no avail. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi Lara,

If you're having difficulty importing audio, please review the following tips:

  • If the folder containing the audio files has spaces in it's name, remove the spaces and try importing again.
  • If your audio or PowerPoint file resides in a directory path containing non-western characters, rename the directory or directories with Western characters and try importing again.
  • If your audio or PowerPoint file resides on a network drive, copy the files to your local drive. Working on a network drive can cause erratic behavior.
  • Although you can import multiple audio files at the same time, it is recommended that you import no more than 20 files at a time to ensure a smooth process.
  • If you are importing .MP3 files, make sure that you are using Flash-supported .MP3 files.
  • Articulate recommends using .WAV files when importing audio. Articulate recommends using 16 bit 44 Khz .PCM .WAV files. You can convert .MP3 files to .WAV using a third party audio editing tool.

Additionally, you'll also want to follow these directions for combining multiple Presenter files.

So, my biggest issue is that when I try to copy and paste the slides into the new merged version of my presentation, the audio won't follow. Importing the audio single file by single file will take a very long time (time our client didn't pay for) and will require that I re-cue all of the animations I've created within the presentation. What I don't understand is why the audio files don't automatically come over with the animations cued. I have done this before and the audio and animations all automatically pasted over just fine, still cued up. Do you think it could be because it's been so long since I've worked on this presentation? It's been over a year...

Thank you for the above info!

Lara,

I don't believe it is possible to merge the projects as you described without reimporting the audio. See this support document.

When you copy slides from one project to another, the timing of your animations should stay intact. Then it's just a matter of exporting the audio from one project and importing the audio into the master project. You needn't do this slide by slide.

Thanks Steve for sharing that support link.

I don't think it's an issue of it being an older project, but if you're unable to import the audio as described in the previously linked items please feel free to connect with our Support team.  You'll want to package your Presenter files according to these directions.
