Corrupted Articulate in Learning Module?

Sep 29, 2011

Has anyone had this happen?  I need help - major help - in resolving it, without needing to completely recreate it.  I'm very frustrated.  :(

We have a training module that we created in PPT, had it all synched and recorded.  The person creating it saved all the files to our shared server. I downloaded them from the server to my local computer. I can update the PPT but every time I try to click on the Articulate tab to preview, publish or do anything (synch, etc.) it freezes and then crashes my PPT.  I can open other modules and work in Articulate fine, it's just this particular one. To troubleshoot, I had my co-worker try opening her original files on her local computer and it is now doing the same thing to her (these are not the files from the server, these were the original files on her computer).  Prior to saving them to the server for me, she was able to do anything she needed to in Articulate with this file.  We "share" files this way all the time, but this is the first situation like this.

We have multiple presenters recorded on this particular module (including the owners of the company) and would have a hard time getting these recordings again, so I'm hoping someone can tell me some quick fix or perhaps I'll need to send it to the guru's at Articulate... just anything to help us not have to start from scratch!  Help?

Hi Kelly it may be that the ppta file is corrupt, but you normally get a message to this effect.  the good news is that your audio should hopefully be intact.

I preseme you have restarted your macheine etc.

You should be able to extract these and other resources using 7zip

One of the major problems with studio is the number of files associated with a project makes sharing a nightmare, and the articulate package always seems to miss something

Hope this helps

Yes, we've restarted... I have actually tried on separate days to work on this... as did she.

What is 7zip?

I'm pretty meticulous (I was going to use a more inappropriate term but decided meticulous would be best ) about keeping the different files for the whole package organized.  We keep all of the "original files" in a folder labeled as such - the PPTX, the PPTA, the quiz, the engage, etc.  The whole folder is what is transferred to our file server and back down.

The most disconcerting piece is that the original original files on my coworkers laptop - the ones that were where she started from - are also corrupt, for lack of a better term.  She didn't pull them back down from the file server. She just used them right from the original location on her laptop.  So I don't think it was the file transfer that corrupted or missed anything, when she can't even do it from the original piece of work she had started from and saved.

Hi Kelly,

Have you tried using the method in the link below to fix your corrupted presentation?

I'm able to import the slides into a new presentation, but I can't EXPORT the narration from the original PPTX in order to import it to the new one.  It's the same issue as what I said above - in the original PPTX - I can't do anything in the Articulate ribbon, including opening Audio Editor to do any sort of export. And that's the biggest part of the presentation that I don't want to lose since we have multiple presenters.    Other ideas?

Hi Kelly,

If the ribbon is working as expected in the other presentations, then this likely indicates that the PPTA file is beyond repair.  Would you mind zipping your Presentation file and your PPTA file & uploading them to me?

In the subject field, put Attention Brian Batt and the file will come straight to me.

If the PPTA file is corrupt, I'll try to extract the audio for you so that you can recreate the course.

I wish I could zip it, Brian, but it won't let me:

I  guess this is probably an indicator that I'm out of luck.

I've successfully used the directions provided by Brian Batt many times to fix files.  Recently, my PC was upgraded to Windows 10.   The two steps below are now different:

At the bottom of the Reuse Slides panel, select the Keep source formatting check box.  --This box is now at the top of the list

Right click the first slide in the Reuse Slides panel and select Insert All Slides.  -  This no longer works.  Each slide has an Insert link on it.  Is there a way to insert all slides at one time?
