"Could not find the video file"

Jan 04, 2014

Hi, my first post here

I've got little problem with videos. When I insert them and I would like to preview them, everything is fine.

But when I restart Presenter 2013 and I want preview or edit video, following issue appears: "Could not find the video file - C:\Users\Kuba\AppData\Roaming\Articulate\Presenter\Project\somenumbershere\videos\morenumbers\andmorenumbers.mp4."

I tried to repair by InstallWizard but it still the same.

System: Windows Vista

Thanks for any response!

Jakub

Hi Jakub and welcome to the community!

If you encounter the following error message when attempting to edit a video in Articulate Presenter, it indicates the original *.ppta file for your presentation is missing.

"Could not find the video file - "

Videos and other presentation resources are stored in the *.ppta file that corresponds to your PowerPoint file. Without the *ppta file, Presenter won't work properly.

If this presentation was transferred from another computer, you may need to check its previous location for the original *.ppta file. When you find it, place it in the same folder as your PowerPoint file, and make sure both files have the same name.

If that doesn't help, try moving the video to your desktop (for a shorter file path) and reinsert the video.

Hi Christine and thank you for response.

It's not about ppta file (it's still in the same place for a loong time)

I moved my video to deskop and still the same situation :(

I tried reinstall Articulate 2013 and nothing changed, still no video after restart of presentation.

I think the problem is connected with the path "C:\Users\Kuba\AppData\Roaming\Articulate\Presenter\Project\somenumbershere\videos\morenumbers\andmorenumbers.mp4."

Hi Jakub,

That's odd - if the file was moved to the desktop, it should show a different path, I think.

It would be something like C:\Users\Name\Desktop - can you move it to just the C: drive, or a new folder on the C: drive? For example, you could create a new folder named "Testing" >> C:\Testing\andmorenumbers.mp4

Have you tried inserting the video in a new, blank presentation? Sounds like that one's been around for a while, it might help to see if it's an issue with the project file itself.

Are you able to play the video outside of PowerPoint/Presenter by just opening the MP4 file?

Hi Christine,

it's really weird...

I tried on a different computer, system, powerpoint... and situation is still the same, movies are disappearing from preview when I restart powerpoint and presenter.

I tried also new blank presentation with one movie, another drive both for movie and presentation and still the same.

Only info what's wrong I got from "Edit video"  C:\Users\Kuba\AppData\Roaming\Articulate\Presenter\Project\somenumbershere\videos\morenumbers\andmorenumbers.mp4."

Same problem on my laptop and PC.

But what's interesting, my another old presentation with movies after restart plays it correctly....

HI Jakub,

What method are you using, initially to insert the videos?

Are you using PowerPoint or the Articulate ribbon to insert the files? It sounds like you might be using PowerPoint - but I'm not quite sure.

Also, you mentioned that it is working in an older presentation - what's the difference here? Were the videos added differently, inserted on a different machine, or a different version of PowerPoint, etc.?

Thanks!

Hi Narongrit!

Did you check out the solution shared above?

Also, be sure that you are working locally on your C drive.

Hi Leslie,

I have tried the following by importing the video with Articulate ribbon then save/close and reopen then preview the slide, please see below:

1. I have put the videos in the same folder (Drive) --> It doesn't work

2. I have moved all the project file+videos to Desktop (It is set to Drive:D)--> It doesn't work

3. I have moved all the project files+videos to Drive C--> It doesn't work

The only way it works is i need to import the video then publish without closing the file.

Ps. On '09 version i have put all my files in Drive D: and there is no issue.
