Course won't end??

Dec 20, 2011

I'm sure I'm missing something basic in some configuration setting somewhere, but for the life of me I just can't find it.  Here's the problem:

I have each of the slides set up to be "advance by user", including the last one.  However, when the user gets to the final slide, instead of changing from the "pause" button over to the "play" button after the appropriate amount of time has elapsed as it does with the other slides in the preso, it remains permanently with a pause button, and never really releases back to the LMS.

If someone can help me figure this one out, I promise to slap my forehead and exclaim "D'oh!"

Thanks to all - you guys have never let me down before!

Hey Reese!

Feel free to Create an Articulate Presenter Package and upload the zip file to us via the link below:

One of our support engineers will be happy to take a look and help find a solution. Please include the url for this thread along with any other pertinent information, and someone will be contacting you shortly. Thanks!

The final screen does not show the play button. It stays as the pause button. it should say "complete" in the playbar at the bottom. When you close the window, assuming the user met all the completion criteria, you will see the pop up window saying they have completed the course.

usually, in the cc and/or audio, we make mention they have finished and to close the window to complete the course.

I have the completion set to " all slides viewed." So when the final screen is viewed, that value is set to "completed" in Articulate. When I click the X button to close the main course window, the completed window pops up.

If you are not seeing this, you're completion might not be getting set. You could try to put a one slide quiz as the last slide, making the passing score zero, and using that quiz as your completion criteria in the LMS/tracking reporting window.

We are using SumTotal, so it might behave a little different in other LMSs.

Thanks for your continued help, Dwayne.  Please pardon my ignorance, but I'm still learning the configuration options.  As you said, and now Tech Support at Articulate has confirmed, the last side is supposed to remain at the pause button.

When you say you "have the completion set to 'all slides viewed' ", is that an Articulate setting, or is that in your LMS?  If in Articulate, which menu option would contain that configuration parameter?  I've been through every menu option more than once and I can't seem to find that one.

Thanks again.

When you click the Publish button, then the LMS tab, there is an option at the bottom where you can choose either AICC or SCORM.

From there, click the reporting and tracking button to open the scorm attributes window.

In the tracking options, you can choose how you want the course to record the completion as shown below.

the second option, Track using quiz results, is active only if you include a quiz into your course.

Use care though when using the slide tracking option, as any hidden slides are still counted in the minimum count.

So if you have 10 slides, and 1 is hidden, the learner MUST see that hidden slide if you set the minimum to 10. If the hidden slide is optional, and the learner does not see it and reaches your conclusion slide, leaving the minimum slides viewed to 10, the course will not complete, as the learner has only seen 9 slides.

On the flip side, say the slide is optional, so you set the minimum slides viewed to 9, the learner will be marked complete after 9 slides have been viewed. Even if they have not reached the end of the course.

So, in experience, if you have optional hidden slides, using the Quiz as last slide option works best as YOU can truly control the end of the course by setting the quiz as the completion trigger.

The completion is set on the slide, but sent to the LMS upon slide change or window close.

Thank you so much for the detailed reply, Dwayne.  As I said in my first post, you guys never let me down!

In my actual course (not the test one I uploaded to Articulate), we are using quizzes, but the final exam is a few slides from the last one in the preso.  The final exam is identified and linked, and the LMS is receiving the data.  Unfortunately, I can't seem to figure out how to get a really cool "course is completed, please close your browser" window like you have, so I'll just stick with text on the slide.

Thanks again so much for all your help.
