Editing Navigation Titles in the slide properties fails

Feb 24, 2013

Hi there,

Every now and then I can't make any changes to navigation titles in the Slide Properties. I can open the Slide Property window and I can edit the navigation titles as well as applying the changes by hitting Enter. If I leave the Slide Property window by clicking OK and re-open the Slide Property window the changes have not been saved and the navigation titles has reverted to the old name.

Very odd.

Doesn't happen all the time and there doesn't seem to be consitency when this happenes. Sometimes it's just individual slides, sometimes all navigation titles in a presentation that can't be re-named.

First I thought it has something to do with special characters such as & or / or () but quickly figured out that some navigation titles are fine with special characters, so can't be that one.

Any ideas? Anybody solved this already?

Hi Florian. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

I agree, that does sound pretty strange. The first thing I'd want to check is the location of the presentation files. They may not be saving correctly if they're not on the local machine.

1.  Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.

2. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).

3.  Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Hi Christine,

I am working on my local drive and the file and folder names include no special characters.

File name: CA212_WEEK02_01_Wk2_Powerpoint.pptx

Folder name that is sitting on C:\ is CHM203A_CA212

So really nothing wrong with the file names ... I tried to re-name, create copies ... still doesn't store.

However, what I found out today is the following:

If I do not use a blank in the Navigation Titles, it does store. EG Navigation Title "Slide 1" will not store and "Slide01" will store. The interesting thing is that Navigation Titles that were automatically taken from the slide tiles can include blanks. I have attached a screenshot showing that slide 1 has a blank in the Navigation Title "Stomach Channel" where slide 2 and 3 can not have blanks.

WEIRD!

Any suggestions? Do you want me to upload you the PPTX and PPTA file?

Hi Florian,

First thing I see is five underscores in the name/path you provided. Try removing those

Certainly, we'd be happy to take a look at this.
