I recently published my content, with embedded videos. The videos didn't play when viewed in the player. The youtube videos played just not the embedded videos. Anyone have this problem? Is there something else I need to be doing?
all my YouTube embedded videos no longer work. This may be related to the recent YouTube API update. Can you provide a temporary workaround for AP and keep us updated on a resolution in general, please.
When I tried to do the workaround "In the meantime, we recommend adding YouTube videos as web objects instead", It shows a grey page which does not load the video, so this does not work for me, unfortunately.
You won't see the video included while editing/previewing the slide as web objects are not accessible during preview but it should appear when viewing the published output within the intended environment.
Thanks for sharing that link - do you have a copy of the Youtube video so that I could try inserting it into Presenter as well? Also, just for anyone else who comes across this thread, the issue is documented here for Presenter.
I was able to insert it as web object and publish, but this YouTube video gave me an error that it could not be displayed within a frame, so I had to set it to open in a new browser window. Do you have a way to download the original so that you could insert the video directly into the slide instead of having to place it in a new window?
most client videos are 'borrowed' so no originals so I can't insert directly.
Opening in a new window - this will do as a Plan B for now. However PLEASE let us know if we can get this functionality back, as it's crucial to so much learning, and opening in a new window can look messy/unprofessional.
The Articulate Presenter functionality of simply embedding a Youtube video and it seemed like part of the presentation was really great! Please do your best to bring this back!! :) thanks!
Thanks Seaghan, and we've shared our thoughts with Google directly as the documentation mentioned. We'll keep folks updated if there is any change in the behavior.
We've researched this topic further and reached the following conclusions:
Utilizing web objects is the proper approach to add a YouTube video because it is supported in all output types. More details on that process can be found in this article for Storyline and this article for Presenter. Please note the various optional parameters you can set to tune how the video functions within your course.
As noted elsewhere in this thread, YouTube videos in projects published prior to Google's API change are NOT impacted. Therefore no action is necessary for that content to function properly.
Google is not going to reverse their actions so we are going to stop advocating for that approach.
For those of you who must use the embed code option, we did find a workaround. It requires a few steps and isn't an officially supported approach but nonetheless I thought I'd share.
You'll need to ensure that the video is properly sized prior to grabbing the embed code from YouTube as it can't be resized on the stage within Storyline or Studio.

Hi Lexi,
If videos are not playing in your published output you may want to begin by reviewing the steps here.

An update from Brian Gil, in this thread regarding the YouTube issue:
We've researched this topic further and reached the following conclusions:

I'll send the link later..
For now, the link you sent:

Hi Seaghan,
I don't have any difficulty opening that page, but I've included the full link below as yours looks to have broken the hyperlink:

Also, just an FYI replying via email includes your signature here, so you're welcome to edit the post and remove that information if needed.
Thanks so much – link is perfect now, and yes, this is how I’m currently linking YouTube videos since the Google API change.
Thanks!
Kindest Regards,
Seaghan Moriarty.
Thanks Seaghan for the update and glad that's working for you. If you need anything else please let us know.
