embedding videos

Jun 18, 2013

I am trying to embed videos into an Articulate project.  The mp4 video loads with an error ("file uses a video codec that may not be supported or play in Flash Player") and when I preview it only has the voice.  I tried converting it to a flv file and it has been loading for 2 hours.  And I can't seem to find an online conversion for swf files.  Help!

Hi there Cheryl,

I found some information that may help, but I'm not sure if you've seen it already:

If you get a warning message when inserting an MP4 video that says "Unsupported Codec", the video will not play correctly in the published output.

The Flash Player only supports playback of MP4 videos encoded with the H.264 codec.

To correct this issue, do either of the following:

  • Encode the MP4 to FLV using Articulate Video Encoder '09.
  • Or, re-encode the MP4 movie using the H.264 codec.

When you converted the file did you use the Articulate Video Encoder, or another program? If you don't have the encoder, you could always try it for free.

Please also make sure that you're importing the video from and to a file from your local hard drive:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

Let me know how it goes, Cheryl!

Thanks,

Christine

Hi Cheryl,

I'm sure there are a lot of programs out there that can do this.

There's a recommendation from another community member that might work for you:

Video Encoder Codec

I have converted the file to H.264 code using Handbrake.  It converts fine and displays fine when I preview the video by double-clicking it.  But when I embed it into Articulate the video is zoomed in where the person's face fills the screen and words are cut off on the sections with text.  Any ideas???
