End of audio getting chopped off

Oct 28, 2011

I've successfully recorded audio directly into Articulate, then the ends of some of the narration starts getting chopped off. I don't think it's recording errors -- the orignal recordings aren't choped off. It's like some audio gets corrupted. Tonight I discovered about 8 of 89 slides have the last syllable chopped off.

I have been doing some work in Audio Editor - could deleting or adding silence in the middle of audio cause it to get truncated at the end? Some of the audio in the editor looks like it has waves, but there's complete silence when I pass over it.

The oddest thing is that sometimes the audio I exported from earler versionsof the course sounds fine, and sometimes it gets truncated too. In fact, I swear one old file I exproted was fine a first, but had a chopped off ending by the time I was ready to impor it into the new course.

Welcome to Heroes, Gary!

You said you were adding silence in the middle of some audio recordings you had- I'm assuming those are the slides that become truncated? Have a look at this troubleshooter and let me know if it works. It discusses updating the duration of a slide from a previous audio recording length:

Curious to know if that does it. Good luck!

Hi Guys - I am having exactly the same issue.

I am working from my harddisk, and not from a network drive (although I have a system drive, and a second drive for data on my PC where my data is stored; will try to move the files to the C: Drive, too).

I have recorded an mp4 video file, and when playing (in both preview and published version), the audio is chopped off. It all seems very erratic. Most of the times, it's fine. But in some cases, it is half a second, sometimes it is several seconds.

I have tried to close the program, re-start, all the usual tricks but no success.

My feelings are similar to Gary's...

Anyone an idea?

Chris

Hi all

I am having exactly the same issue (using W7 ultimate English, Storyline Update 3 1305-2012).

I have imported a number of mp4 video files, all of them include an audio channel, too.

In some cases, the audio is chopped of at the end. Sometimes half a second, but sometimes several seconds. It seems rather erratic.

It happens in the preview as well as in the published version.

Also, even if I replace the published mp4 file with the original mp4 file in the story_content folder, the audio is still cut off.

So, at least I can say that it is not a problem in the video file itself.

I am also working with my C drive.

Any help?

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Welcome to the community Chris!

You mentioned you're working locally with the files, but it may also help to check the file names, if you haven't already:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

Please make sure you're using the most recent version of Storyline. To find this information, click on "Help" and "About Articulate Storyline".

If you're not running version 3 (1305.2012), please download and install the update using the link below:

Articulate - Storyline Update 3

If the problem continues, can you tell me if this is happening for a specific file, or any project that contains an MP4 video with audio? If this is only happening with one specific project, please try importing the project into a new, blank Storyline file. For information on how to go about doing this, take a look at this tutorial.

Let me know if you see any improvement.

Thanks and welcome again!

Hi Christine

Thank you for your detailed reply. Unfortunately, it didn't help.

  • I have everything running on my local Crive
  • I am running an uptodate Windows 7 ultimate version
  • I have the latest Articulate Storyline (1305.2012)
  • I have no special characters, accents or symbols in my file names. The path is less  than 260 characters long.
  • I have created a new file and imported my slides. No luck, either.

Currently, this is my first project, so I can't compare it with other projects. But I have more than one mp4 file that doesn't play until the end (well the picture does, not the audio).

Any ideas?

Chris
