Engage issue

Dec 03, 2012

I use an Engage interaction at slide 59. I duplicated the Engage slide and placed it in the presentation as slide 93. If I make a change to 93 my PPT reverts back to slide 59. Why? Also, when I publish and advance to slide 93, the slide is blank. What is the fix?

Hi Alan. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

I found some information that may help you with this issue:

If you wish to duplicate the Engage slide, you'll need to actually republish it from Engage. If you have any problems, be sure to open Engage separately (not by clicking on the Engage Interaction button in PowerPoint) and publish the interaction that way.

Interactions are standalone files that exist outside of your presentation. They are .INTR files and you should see them in your project folder where you are working on your presentation. To add an interaction to a presentation, you can't copy a slide. You need to actually go through the steps outlined in this tutorial each time you want to add an interaction:
Presenter '09 | Adding Engage Interactions

You can move an Engage slide around in your presentation without issue, but copying and pasting won't actually bring the interaction over from a different presentation or section of the same presentation. You have to use the wizard in Presenter to insert the interaction.

Are you saying I have to create (publish) the engage slide each time I need to repeat the engage? I tried adding an existing but all that did was update the original engage. I tried using the Engage application and publish to Presenter. That gave me an empty folder. So, I'm a little confused about how to make duplicate engages. It would help to list the steps.

Good morning Alan,

Duplicating the interaction slide merely duplicates the published engage content. It does not in any way duplicate the interaction on disk. When you click on Edit button on the duplicated slide, Presenter will look for same Engage interaction on disk as the original slide. Instead of this approach, create a copy of the Engage interaction file on disk and then publish the copy to PowerPoint. This will ensure that both interaction slides point to their respective files on disk.

I found another resource that may help explain the actual steps you need to take to accomplish this:

Create multiple versions or copies of an interaction

You can create multiple versions or copies of an Enage '09 interaction.  Here's how:

  1. Open your interaction in Engage '09.
  2. Click the round Articulate button in the upper left corner, and select Save As.
  3. Select a location and enter a file name for the new version / copy of your interaction.
  4. Click the Save button.

If your interaction is embedded in a Presenter '09 presentation and if you would like to create a new version or a copy of the entire presentation, including the embedded interaction, see General > Create multiple versions or copies of a presentation.

I hope this information helps. Thanks again, Alan!
