Flash Movie not playing

Nov 12, 2013

Hi, I'm using Articulate Presenter '13 to update a wbt previously created with Articulate '09.

I'm incorporating .swf files. The .swf files were previously created with Flash 8.

I've upgraded my system to Articulate Presenter '13 and Flash Professional CC and the Flash files are no longer playing...I just see a preview of the frame 1 image.

The publish settings I'm using are Target: Flash Player 10.3 (which is the lowest option; I see that the recommended setting is 10). And the Script is ActionScript 3.0. It's playing at 30 fps. I've unchecked publishing options for HTML5 since I think I read that flash files won't play there and I don't need that functionality anyway.

What could be the problem?

Good Morning Sylvia, and welcome to Heroes!

It sounds like you've upgraded both your Flash content and your Studio content simultaneously.  In an effort to isolate the root cause of the problem, could we try some various combinations to see what works?

  • Does your Flash 8 content work in Studio '09?
  • Does your Flash 8 content work in Studio '13?
  • Does your Flash Professional CC content work in Studio '09?
  • Does your Flash Professional CC content work in Studio '13?

These tests should tell us a bit more about whether your Flash content or your Studio content is the problem.  For example, if your Flash Professional CC content works in neither Studio '09 nor Studio '13, you'll want to focus on this article, which provides some guidelines when developing Flash files.

Thanks!

Hi Justin,

Thanks for the reply!

- Flash 8 content worked in my last installation of Studio which I believe was '09.

- My Flash 8 content does work in Studio '13.

- Unfortunately I had to re-format my computer and don't have the installation files for Studieo '09.

- No, that's the problem

From what I can see the problem is the format that Flash Pro CC is publishing to.

I had this problem before when I tried publishing in a different fps with '09, but I've read all of the support from Flash regarding Articulate & am using the suggested settings but don't see anything regarding Flash Professional CC and Studio '13 yet.

Was hoping someone might be using the same setup and have experienced the same problems.

I don't even know if I can get my hands on a previous version of Flash Pro to install...

Thanks again Justin!

Hello again, Sylvia.

If you'd like to download a trial copy of Studio '09, you can do so here.  Note that you'll need to install it on a machine other than the one that is running Studio '13.  My guess is that the fact that you are not outputting your Flash movies for Flash Player 10 or lower is likely the problem.

Good luck with your project!

Hello Justin,

I got frustrated and am under deadline so I found online software Adobe Flash and downloaded Studio '09 on another computer. They're test versions but all I need is 2 days to get this published.

Then I have more time on my hands to troubleshoot the Articulate '13 and Flash Pro CC and see if I can get the working together.

If they don't today it's a matter of time I'm sure before a patch is put in place.

If I figure something out I'll post here

Thanks again!

-Sylvia
