Flash Upgrade Prompt Problem

Jun 16, 2011

Hey All,

I have a series of 4 eLearning modules I developed for a client as a part of an online webinar training.

Recently there was a strange behavior with the flash movies. Every time the facilitator of the webinar started the movies for the clients, the client's local machines would open new browser windows prompting them to upgrade their flash player.

Here's the really strange part. As far as I can tell everyone had flash players newer than the 'prompt thresh hold' of flash player version 6 or so.  After the presentation we discussed what happened and attempted to trouble shoot it.

I was among the attendees, and I know my flash player was new enough not to require an update.  However I didn't have the latest patch.

And the prompt to upgrade ceased after I upgraded and rebooted.

Anyone have any similar experiences lately?

Thanks!

Hi Andrew. The version of Flash Player required to view Articulate content is only Flash Player 6,0,79. However, if you have inserted Flash movies, depending on what version of Flash Player they target, you would be prompted to upgrade your version of Flash Player. Here's an article outlining Flash movie best practices:

Hey Justin, thanks for the response.

Unfortunately, there isn't anything in those best practices that speaks directly to the issue I'm having.

I'm still trying to pin down why there are times when http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ is launched.

The closest I can find is, loading the playershell.swf from my presentation into the recommended GlobFX swf player, if its playing and I press the pause button the movie doesn't pause, and after several presses it starts over and launches the http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ URL.

I have tested a few other presentations from other projects and under the same circumstances they behave the same way in the SWF player.
