Font becomes bold when published in Presenter 09

Jul 14, 2011

I have the latest Presenter 09-update 8 and am using Office 2010. When I publish my ppt files to the Web output (to create swf files) all the text in the slides goes to a bold font in the published output. I have tried embedding the fonts in the ppt and bolding and unbolding the fonts in the ppt before publishing but so far nothing has worked. Has anyone seen this or know a way to fix it?

Thank You!

Katherine

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the greeting.   I actually do not have a current project with this particular issue. Because the group that I work with is considering moving to PPT 2010, we want to make sure we identify any known incapabilities that may be out there right now between PPT 2010 and Articulate before making the final decision to switch versions, and this is one issue that seems to happen consistently.  So, I'm hoping there is a fix out now for this problem.  Thank you.

Hi Rebecca,

This occurs because you are probably trying to publish a PPT 2007 developed course that is opened in PPT 2010. You would not have run into this issue if you had opened a PPT 2010 developed course within PPT 2010 and published.

As a workaround, publish a 1st version of the course like normal -- the Notes sections will all be bold.  Then, create a brand new blank PPT in 2010 and reuse all the slides from your PPT 2007 developed course. Just publish this 2nd version of the course as normal and steal the Notes swf files from your 2nd published course to overwrite the Notes swf files from your 1st published course.  Let me know if that works for you.   I can also include more detailed steps if you need further clarification.  Thanks.

Yes. You are right. These were older 2007 files files that we edited etc...

I may need a little more hand-holding here.

I didn't realize before that notes tab copy is bold as well as the slide copy.

I see now there is a folder with all the notes swf (which I never realized before).

So I need to open an new 2010 file and drag all the thumbnails from my presentation into that. Then I've lost you with the swf files...

Hi Rebecca,

Here are the steps I put together awhile back for our team:

1)    Publish your course like normal.

2)    Close your course file.

3)    Create a brand new, blank PPT, and then delete the default starter slide that always appears in a new PPT file. Before completing the rest of the steps, your new PPT file should be empty of slides.

4)    On the Home tab, in the Slides group, click the New Slide drop-down arrow button and select Reuse Slides.

5)    In the Reuse Slides pane, browse for (using the Browse File option) and select your course PPT to fill in the Insert Slide From drop-down text box.

6)    At the bottom of the pane, check the Keep Source Formatting check box.

7)    Right-click the first slide in the list of slides in the pane, and then select Insert All Slides.

8)    After all the slides have been populated in your new PPT, you can choose one of the following (IMPORTANT: Either option you choose, please ensure you have selected a different publish location than the one you used for step #1, or else you will overwrite all of your course files):

·         Delete all the animations and graphics from each slide to save time on total publishing time, as our main focus is to publish the Notes only, and then publish a basic LMS version of the course (not worrying about tracking, player template, etc.)

·         Skip deleting the animations and graphics and just move right on to publishing a basic LMS version of the course (not having to worry about tracking, player template, etc.).

9)    In the Notes-only published version of the course, from the data/swf/notes folder, copy all of the notes#.swf files, and then paste them in the data/swf/notes folder of your published course from #1.

Hope that helps out more.  Thanks.

Hi Katherine,

Yes, they are definitely similar. The only difference is that not all pieces/parts of your PPT 2007 developed course will be completely compatible with PPT 2010, so to upconvert your 2003/2007 courses completely to PPT 2010 is not always the best option. I attempted to publish quite a few different courses that were developed in 2007 by upconverting completely to PPT 2010 and I ran into a ton of brand new publishing errors/issues. So, the better option was to keep my source PPTs in 2007 and only use 2010 to publish my courses only (because it's faster and able to handle larger course files). To avoid losing any functionality or additional publishing issues, the workaround allows you to keep your files in the desired version of PPT.  Hope that provides a bit more clarification.  Thanks.

Okay, I followed the instructions. I think I did everything correctly, but not getting the outcome that I'm looking for.

I end up with 2 published files.

-The 1st one that is from the original ppt (which incorrectly has the slide copy all bolded AND the notes in the notes tab all bolded as well)

-The 2nd one, that is created from the new 2010 ppt I recreated. This now has has the slide copy correctly in regular type, but the notes tab copy is not in bold, but it is not formatted correctly anymore.

I then took the notes swfs from the 2nd published file and replaced them into the folder in the 1st published file. This now makes the 1st file just have the notes and the slides fonts not right.

I must have misunderstood something here. Sorry. Trying.

I'm having a conversation with myself here, but at least I'm making a little progress.

I Did steps 3 through 7, so I have my new 2010 ppt slides. Then I copied and pasted all the notes from my original ppt into this new 2010 ppt making sure to right-click on the Paste Options pane "Keep Source Formatting" so that my notes were now in the correct font.

Then I published this new presentation. Voila.

I am using "Publish to Web" for everything, but don't know if that makes a difference.

Welcome comments!

My issue was only related to the slides and not the notes as we were using Articulate to get individual swf files of the slide view. Also, when we upgraded to 2010, I lost 2003 so I had to upgrade to 2010. We worked out the issues with the upgrade so that the new version was what we wanted.

Using the steps in the link corrected everything for me with the Articulate publish without presenting new issues.

Thanks Katherine. We have a "notes" tab when we publish a presentation and for some reason that also had a font issue which was fixed when I copied and pasted each of the notes pages into the new 2010 file.

I don't know a way to copy them all at once like the slides. Hoping to find a way so it's even quicker to fix this.

At this point when I go through the process of putting the files in a 2010 file, the notes change font and style on me. When I copy and paste the correct styles into the notes master and try to apply the notes master to my notes pages, they don't change...??? Unless there's a fix for this, I'm going to have to going and manually change each notes pages. Any suggestions here????

Thanks.
