Formatting text in the Notes tab

Jan 07, 2014

Hi,

I cannot find a way to format the text in the notes tab, the default setting is black text and centred alignment, please see below.

Is there a setting that allows me to edit the colour of the text and the alignment?

I have tried editing the text in PowerPoint; changing the alignment and colour in the notes section at the bottom of each slide individually; and editing the notes in the Notes Page view, however none of this has helped. The text appears does however appear in the correct format in the Notes Page view, but when I publish the formatting always stays the same, black text and centred.

I would also like to edit the title because when the slides have long titles the bottom of the title overlaps the dividing line, see above.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Kind Regards,

Adam

Hi Adam!

First, please try to make sure that you aren't testing your published output files locally. If you view a published Studio '13 presentation on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review the article below for more information:

Tips for Managing Project Files

If that doesn't help, try to make sure you're not formatting the notes with PowerPoint's Note Master:

Formatting Notes Via the Notes Master in PowerPoint Doesn't Work in Articulate Presenter

Are you publishing for HTML5? Formatting applied to PowerPoint notes isn't currently supported in Articulate Presenter's HTML5 output. The notes will display, but changes in font, color, size, etc. won't show in HTML5 output.

If you'd like to request this feature, please let us know.

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Thank you for your response. I tried pubishing to a local drive but this did not affect the presentation, it still had the same problems. I had found that article explaining how to use the notes bar at the bottom in my attempts to solve it previously and that didn't work either. I have been viewing the presentations through our server, this is how they will be viewed in future.

I have published to HTML5 and the formatting works sometimes and not others (explained below).

We have two locations that we want to display the projects, through the internet (a university resource) and a local company's server. We need to publish to the web for the internet and to CD for the server.

When I publish the presentation to the web instead of CD the notes are sometimes correct and they appear as I want them to. Sometimes when I publish to web they do not appear as I want and the notes are centred. There doesn't seem to be a particular reason for it; it works correctly one time then incorrectly another time. However it does not matter how many times I publish to CD or however many different things I try but it does not publish correctly.

I can get the notes to publish with a right, and justified alignment it appears it is only the left justification that is not working for me.

I have figured out that can publish the notes in different colours however if I use the white from the theme colours, see below, it publishes in black however if I modify the colour very slightly and make it not quite perfect white then it will publish in the correct colour.

Thanks,

Adam

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the information - but I'm unclear on one point:

You mentioned you are publishing for HTML5 when publishing for the web - is the HTML5 file the file you're opening when things display incorrectly? If so, that's related to the issue we're currently investigating with HTML5 and note formatting.

Try viewing the Flash (html) and not the HTML5 (_html5.html) file and see if the same thing happens.

You also mentioned a few times that you're also publishing for CD - the notes are displaying correctly for this output when you run the EXE file, correct?

I'm sorry if the questions are redundant - I just want to make sure I understand what's happening for you.

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Thank you for your help but I think I have solved the problem (or at least it works for now). The slides were set to A4 size instead of On-screen show 4:3 in PowerPoint, once I changed this the notes align to the left and it has published correctly.

I am not sure if the page setup should have a this sort of impact on the notes, I didn't think of it at first because the slides themselves were unaffected. However I may have you been making a silly mistake - but it seems to be fixed now.

Sorry for wasting your time if it just a silly error, and thank you for you time.

Hi there Adam,

No need to be sorry whatsoever - that's why I'm here! :)

I'm certainly happy to hear that you were able to get this working. Thank you very much for keeping me updated, I do appreciate it.

For the slide size, I do think that was the cause. We're actually investigating a bug that I recently submitted on custom slide sizes. This may be impacting the notes formatting, but I'll have to test this out to confirm whether or not it's related.

In either case, thank you again for getting back to me.

Have a great day, Adam!
