Heavy Engage interactions won't load on Mac computers

Oct 24, 2016

Hello,

I've had Scorm packages made with Articulate Studio 09 on a Moodle install running for years without a problem.

All of a sudden, several Mac users are reporting that the Scorms (made with Presenter and including Engage interactions) launches normally but the once open, the Engage interactions do not load. Either with Chrome or Safari.

For the same users, it works if they try on a PC...

I hope you can help us resolve this quickly. A good part of our students are on Mac computers...

Thanks,

Julien

Hi there, Julien.  Let's see if we can nail down what might have changed since those presentations previously worked for your Mac users.  We'll start with the basis...

Per our system requirements for Engage '09, Flash Player 6.0.79 or later (http://www.adobe.com/go/getflash) (Flash Player 7 or later recommended), and one of the following browsers must be installed to view content:

  • Windows: Internet Explorer versions 6-11, Firefox 1.x and later, Safari 3 and later, Google Chrome, Opera 9.5 and later
  • Macintosh: Safari 3 and later, Firefox 1.x and later, Google Chrome
  • Linux: Firefox 1.x and later

If those requirements are met, will loading that SCORM package onto SCORM Cloud allow your Mac users to view your presentation?  If it behaves properly from SCORM Cloud, take a stab with your Moodle support to see if an issue can be identified on their end.

We are happy to do some testing as well if you'd like to share your file with our support team in a case.  Let us know how you make out!

Hi Crystal,

The users have investigated further and it looks like the issue only occurs for Mac users on Safari and Firefox. On Chrome from a Mac, it works. Any idea?

Attached is the screen shot showing what happens. The symbol showing the interaction is loading is spinning... but the interactions actually never display.

I am currently trying to figure out how to test with Scorm Cloud. More soon.

I see.  That's no good.  : /

This is what I would recommend for your SCORM testing.  Please reopen and republish that presentation, making sure you're on the latest version of Studio '09.  Zip the presentation after it has published, and once you get into SCORM Cloud, you can browse for that .zip and upload it.

There will be a launch button and an invitation button to grab a link and run the course from SCORM Cloud.  If you need any help with testing, let us know!
