how to insert a 3-minute pause after movie plays?

Apr 21, 2012

Hi -

I have a series of short (30 to 60 seconds) videos that I have inserted into my course, one per slide.

I want to provide a three minute pause after each movie (so learners can write their responses to the video). I want the slide to move automatically from video to pause to video.

I tried inserting a quizmaker slide after the video slide, but for some reason this resulted in the video slide advancing about 10 seconds after the video started - and then there was a "thank you for taking this quiz" screen that appeared after the "pause" slide.

Help?

Hi Lerissa...

I'm not sure I understand how you've set this up (in Presenter or Quizmaker or both), but here's an idea that should work in Presenter

Slide 1 is your video slide, set to automatically advance when the video finishes playing.

Slide 2 is the "pause" screen, set to automatically advance. To make this advance after three minutes, import an audio file that's 3 minutes long. When the audio file finishes, the screen will advance to Slide 3,

The audio file can be silent if you wish.

Does that help?

Hi Dave -

Thanks - this works.

The slides are set up in Presenter; I had added a QM slide after the video slide on the advice of a fellow Articulate user, but forgot the details.

One of the things I liked about the QM slide was the little timer up in the right-hand corner. Is it possible to add that time to my silent, 3-minute pause slide?

Thanks!

Lerissa

So I've been fiddling around with it, and now it's back to the original issue: the 37-second video plays for 8 seconds and the next slide appears.

Sigh ... is there a tutorial that addresses this specifically? I've been browsing the tutorials and searching the forums without finding what I really need. This is what I want:

1.Slide opens

2. text appears

3. video begins, plays its full 37 seconds

4. video fades to black

5. freeze frame from video appears

6. new text appears

7. timer begins (3 minutes)

8. next slide appears

When you insert the video, have you selected under "How Should This Movie Behave"  Automatically when movie finishes?

On the timer issue, you could do something like this:

Show on screen 3:00 Remaining (set animation to fade out at 30 seconds)

Show on screen 2:30 Remaining (set animation to fade in at 30 seconds and fade out at 60 seconds)

Show on screen 2:00 Remaining (set animation to fade in at 60 seconds and fade out at 90 seconds)

Show on screen 1:30 Remaining (set animation to fade in at 90 seconds and fade out at 120 seconds)

Show on screen 1:00 Remaining (set animation to fade in at 120 seconds and fade out at 150 seconds)

Show on screen 0:30 Remaining (set animation to fade in at 150 seconds and fade out at 180 seconds)

Show on screen "Time's Up!" (set animation to fade in at 180 seconds)

You'd probably want to add a few seconds to the silent sound file so the last message displays long enough to be read before the screen advances.
