How to mark a module complete AND track failing quiz scores?
Nov 10, 2014
Hi there.
Any idea how to record a failing quiz score in the LMS while marking the module completion status as completed? We are using Presenter 13 with an embedded Quizmaker to create a pre-test module in a course. After the learner completes the pre-test we want the learner to continue to the next module regardless of the score. The client wants to record the score in the LMS so we can compare pre- and post-test scores for individual learners. But we don't want to require learners to pass the pre-test.
With our current settings (tested in SCORM cloud), if I score 50% on the pre-test my completion = Incomplete. If I score 80%, my completion changes to complete. Our current settings look like this:
- Presenter: Allow user to leave quiz: After user has completed quiz
- Quizmaker: Passing score: 80%
- Publish settings for SCORM 1.2 are Report status to LMS as Completed/Incompleted and Track using quiz result (results slide)
Are we attempting the impossible here? Can you record failing quiz scores in the LMS AND mark completion to Completed???
Any help is appreciated!

Hi Angie!
This would be the expected behavior.
You are telling the system that completion is based on your quiz results being 80% or better.
So, unless you wanted to lower your passing score, you will not get both.
Thanks Leslie! We're going to lower the passing score to super-low (maybe 10%) and add at least one question that should be easy to answer correct.
Thanks for the update Angie!
Has this issue been updated to allow both scenarios (i.e., failing score, but with a "completed" status)?
Hi MaryAnne,
If you're tracking the course based on the quiz result, the reporting is the same and will record as Incomplete.
Instead, could you track based on the number of slides viewed? When the learner reaches the last slide, they'll complete the course no matter the score they received on the quiz.
I lowered the minimum cut score to be really low, displaying "80%" for the students, instead of using the pre-built variable. My confusion stems from the newer Mark As Complete trigger.
Hi MaryAnne,
Thanks for clarifying what method you're using. To shed some more light on the reporting options, you'll only see a score when you track using a results slide.
If you track using a Complete Course trigger or by Slides Viewed, you will not see a score. I hope this helps!
