I have to place a hyperlink to an external site on one slide of my course, and it works fine when I preview the slide using Articulte preview but when I publish the course and launch it in browser - the hand icon shows but the URL window does not open.
I need to submit the course urgently, request your support on this.
If you are planning on hosting the content online, test the content online. Due to security reasons, hyperlinks don't work offline since they are perceived as a security threat.
I'm having the same problem, but with a twist - all of my hyperlinks worked in the published course yesterday. They're fine in the PowerPoint presentation (I just tested them), but not in the published course.
Hi Heather. I would make sure you are testing the content in the environment you published for. If you are testing the content offline, publish for CD and launch the presentation via Launch_presentation.exe. For more info, see:
The hyperlinks are to URLs and PDFs. Again, I tested them all yesterday from the published course and they worked perfectly. I did make sure my browser is allowing pop-ups and it is, so I'm at a loss. I'm pretty new to Articulate, so this may be a no-brainer, but should I try to republish? Will I lose my narration if I republish?
I wouldn't worry about it working yesterday. If the content is not online, it sounds like it isn't, you should republish for CD and launch the presentation via Launch_presentation.exe. Clicking hyperlinks on Flash content that resides on your local drive is a security threat from your operating system's perspective, your web browser's perspective and Flash's perspective. That's why it's probably not working. The reason it probably worked yesterday is we created a Trust file that circumvents all of that.
I would strong recommend testing the content in the environment you are publishing for and not offline.
My guess is it worked yesterday and not today is the Trust file we created for yesterday no longer applies today so something about the path to the files changed. In any event, testing on the web, in your LMS or Articulate Online will resolve your issue depending on what you are publishing for.
For some of my courses, it works fine but in some it does not, what could be the reason for this? I tested in CD version and it worked fine, but not able to understand why the hyperlink works in some published version and not others.
I am under a deadline and don't know what to do. I have three hyperlinks that work fine in the PowerPoint and in the Preview, but not when published. I have published to my local and to the server where it will be housed and it does not work in either place. I added the hyperlink to an invisible shape after trying to hyperlink to an image. I'm out of ideas and my course is due tomorrow. Can anyone help?
Phil-thanks for your post. Turns out it was a SharePoint issue-when I had it in Explorer view after copying the files I would try to play the link. Apparently you can't play the link unless you are in Document View. I discovered by accident when I was in document view and it suddenly worked and I backtracked to figure out was different. Phew! I'm so glad I read this page, though, because it helped me to get it set up right to begin with knowing what other people had struggled with!

as justin says make sure it is the environment you published for.
If they worked yesterday and you havent changed it they should work today.
If you have republished today, check if your links have forward slashes and ensure they are case specific

I did test each hyperlink online yesterday, but who knows? Anyway, will I lose my narration if I just republish?
Publishing a presentation will not cause you to lose your audio. Here's an article that outlines why one would lose audio:

I republished and it worked. I'm chalking it up to gremlins. Thank you all for your help and advice!
Sure thing.

Hi Udit,
Please review this article:

Everything you need to know about hyperlink support is in that article.
Here are some other less common hyperlink issues:

If a hyperlink is not working, chances are is it's because you are viewing the content offline.

just a couple of things to check
are you being case specific? unix servers are case specific
Also you say an invisible shape are you setting no fill and no stroke, sometimes these shapes can disapear on publish.
I try to set a fill colour and then set the transparency to 100% sometimes 99% and this works
