Hyperlinks & attachments work in preview but not after publishing
Oct 06, 2011
Hi Guys,
Sorry if this has been covered before.
I am a new user of Presenter 09, and am self taught so far, so forgive my ignorance.
I am trying to use links in my slides to take learners to websites and documents I want them to read. I have also attached pdf files to the presentation.
When I click on the links in preview, everything works perfectly. When I publish, none of the links work. The "hand" icon appears when I hover over the links, but they refuse to open. The same happens to the attachments, I can open Attachments and see the attachment titles, but when I click on them they will not open. When I check the Data folder, both pdfs are in there.
I thought it might be a security setting here at work, so I emailed the presentation to my home email address yesterday and still couldn't open anything.
I even tried hyperlinking to www.goggle.com.au as the most innocuous website I could find and I know we can access it here at work, to no avail.
I'm really hoping it's something silly I'm doing (or not doing).
I tried publishing as a CD today however our system doesn't allow us to run executables, so I emailed to my home address. So, I'm unable to tell you if this worked or not.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks
Todd

Sorry guys, I forgot to add, all of my links to email addresses work perfectly.
Thanks
Hi Todd and welcome to Heroes!
Im sorry you're having this issue with your links. How did you apply your hyperlink? Did you use the Hyperlink button or the Action button? Hyperlinks will only work if you use the hyperlink button. Actions aren't supported in Studio '09, so maybe that's what the issue is?
Can you tell us how you applied the link?
Hi David,
I applied them using the Articulate Hyperlink button in an actual Engage slide, and I also applied them using CTRL K in a PP slide that was part of the presentation.
I am using a mixture of regular PP slides and Engage slides.
thanks
Todd
Hi Todd,
Okay. Any change you're linking to local files and documents? Or are you entering a full, absolute link to the files on an external web site?
Local files require a little work. Here's a forum thread on relative links in Engage.
Here's an example of how you can link to local files in Engage:

Are you testing on a local machine, if so external hyperlinks will not function, this is a security setting to stop flash damaging files on your machine or downloading something without you knowing.
You really need to test in the environment you intend to use it or publish to CD when testing and use the exe file to load the presentation
I am having a problem with the Attachment and Exit tabs not working once my project has been published to my LMS. I use Plateau as my LMS and publish the project in AICC format. Everything else works except for these two tabs.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Hi Evie & welcome to Heroes,
If you have published your presentation and find that the Exit tool does not function, please refer to the following Knowledge Base article, which outlines possible solutions for this issue:
Presenter '09:

Presnter 5 and earlier:

If the attachments will not open in your published presentations, please review the following information:

Also, you'll want to make sure that you pop-up blocker is disabled in your browser.
Hi Guys,
Thanks so much for your help so far.
Still struggling, but have had some other issues take priority over the last couple of days (preparations for impending baby), so had to put this on backburner.
Will have another look today. Didn't want you to think I was an ungrateful sod
thanks
Todd
Brian,
I have tried all of the suggestions listed in order to resolve my attachment and exit tab problem. I am still not able to open the Attachment link or Exit from the course using that link. Does anyone who uses Plateau have an answer to this issue?
Hi, I am having a similar issue as the original poster, Todd Wheeler, except I am using Storyline. It does not appear that Todd's question was ever answered adequately as the responses here ask several questions, but do not provide a solution.
The issue I am having is with a hyperlinked image, the hyperlink works when I publish and test locally. However once uploaded to the LMS, the hand icon appears when you hover over it, but nothing happens when you click. I have used Captivate in the past and this is my first time publishing to an LMS with Storyline, so I may be missing something.
Thanks for any assistance!
Hi Elaine!
Are you adding hyperlinks as explained in this documentation?
Are you testing the project in the intended environment as your learner would? You could get some security issues if still viewing locally once uploaded to the LMS.
Are you getting an error of any kind? Is it opening in a new window behind the one you're working in? Try Alt + Tab to see if it's hiding as well :)
Just let me know what you find and if I can further assist.
Old post I know but I wanted to add a comment in case someone else comes across this.
If your file names contain spaces you might have issues opening the files. Remove the spaces, relink the file and try again, the issue should be gone.
