Hyperlinks not working when I publish even when I hyperlink shapes

Apr 23, 2012

I do not know what to do to get my hyperlinks to work when I publish my course. They work fine in Presentation mode but once I publish the links jump all over the place to different "wrong" slides. I was reading some of the blogs and they indicated that the best approach would be to place a transparent shape on top of an image and then hyperlink the shape, which I did. I checked again in presentation mode to make sure that the links were working but once again when I published those slides they hyperlinks linked to incorrect slides. Help please? What am I doing wrong?

Welcome to Heroes, Nuria!

Can you send us your files so we can take a closer look at what's going on? If so, please create an Articulate Presenter package, then upload the zip file to our server. You can review how to do this here:

Send to Articulate Presenter Package – Articulate Presenter ’09 Help

Upload the resulting zip file from your computer to our server using this upload form:

Articulate Support - Upload Your Files for Review

Please be sure to include a description of your issue, your version of PowerPoint, version of Windows and version of Presenter '09, which you can find in Help and Support -> About Articulate Presenter. Please also include the URL for this thread so I can follow up with you personally in the forums. And feel free to come back and leave your case number here so I can keep a close eye on it. Thanks!

Hi Nigel,

I did resolve the problem with help from the Articulate team. One of my problems was exactly that - I had hidden some slides and so the slides kept jumping to other slides for which they were not hyperlinked to. In this instance I was working on a case scenario and then I realized that I had the slide hyperlinked (which I had not noticed) and the answer choices hyperlinked as well. This made it more confusing. The transparent boxes over my answer choices did work however. Because I was working on a scenario I also locked the slides so that the hyperlinks would work as I had set them, as opposed to one slide going to the following slide automatically.

In the process I also found out that hyperlinks do not work as they should when you only preview the slides in Presenter. You have to fully publish for the hyperlinks to function properly. That added to my confusion as well .

Can I help in any way?

I had this same issue and came across this post to find a solution. Thanks for the feedback, because it made me realize that my hyperlinks were not working because  the objects that I hyperlinked were part of a GROUPED image (which I forgot about). Once I ungrouped the images and re-published, everything worked fine.

I wanted to add this just in case there was anybody out there doing te same thing. Cheers!

I'm having an issue with hyperlinks also, driving me bananas!

Hyperlinks to external sources such as a files on the corporate intranet, or 3rd party website do not work in our standard operating environment which is running Windows XP and IE7.

Other e-learning modules available on our LMS do not have this issue on the SOE, only the Articulate published courses. Would really like the Articulate courses to work as they should.

Hyperlinks work fine on my development PC which runs Windows 7 and IE9.

Any suggestions?

Mark Stewart

Solved my own problem, for some strange reason links which have been published as an LMS version can only be veiwed on my Windows 7 machine with IE9, not on the Windows XP with IE7 machine which I use for testing.

After the package was uploaded to our LMS server, the package functioned with all hyperlinks as per normal.

When I published to CD, all hyperlinks worked as per usual on both machines

Hopefully this sheds some light on hyperlink issues with other elearning hero community members.

Note: This occurs when I publish to LMS and test the package.

When I publish to CD it works on both SOE and non-SOE.

I too have the same issue where the links work ok when I publish but when i make some minor test edits and then publish again the hyperlinks dont work?  I end up going back into the course, delete the inks, then add them again and everthing works.  I dont understand why sometimes they work and sometimes they dont?  Any ideas?

I am adding a hyperlink to a shape that has been mad100% transperant.

Thanks

Trevor

Hi Trevor,

This thread is much older - so I'm not certain you're using the same set up (or even version/update of Presenter). Did you also review the supported hyperlink information here? Are you hyperlinking to a website? If so, are you making changes to that text or somewhere else in the course? Can you confirm that you're working on local project files and testing in the intended publish environment?

Hi Nishant,

This original question and even my response to Trevor are a bit older now, so I'd want to have you double check the information and response I had for Trevor as well in terms of supported hyperlinks, versions of Presenter, etc.

If you would like to share a copy of your project so that we can take a look at what you're experiencing please create an Articulate Package and share using the "add attachment" button at the bottom of the reply.
