Hyperlinks won't work when published output is moved

Oct 02, 2013

Hi,

I am using Studio 09. When I published the presentation, hyperlinks that I had in an engage interaction worked fine.  When I copied the published files onto a networked drive, everything except the hyperlinks.  Any suggestions.

Thanks,

Orla

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for the response.

I published my content to the web.  Once published I moved the output from my local drive to the webserver and the links still don't work.  The links worked on the published output when it was on my local dirve but when I moved to the webserver they don't.  It appears like you can click on them (as in the cursor chagnes to a hand when over the links) but the new windows don't open up.  Could it be to do with permissions?

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks,

Orla

Hi Orla,

When you move your files, you'll want to make sure that you're moving all the files that appear within the published folder (as described below from this article on publishing for web).

  • Open Folder: This opens a file viewer where you can see the files Storyline just created. There will be a story_content folder, a file called story.swf, a meta.xml file containing some project info, and a file called story.html (which is the file that launches your course). If you've opted to include HTML5 output and/or make your course viewable on the Articulate Mobile Player, there will also be some additional files to support these options. When you move your files to a web server, you'll need to send your users a link to story.html so they can view your course. Depending on the device and browser learners use, they'll automatically get directed to the appropriate format. (See below for more info on that.)

You'll want to make sure you're point to the story.html file for your users. If you'd like us to test it as well, can you share your .story file here or send it to us privately?
