Importing Flash Movie (SWF)

Dec 20, 2011

Can't seem to get the right settings for my SWF files to play correctly.  After publishing, anytime I try to advance through the slides the window will close automatically, or an Adobe icon does an endless dance mid-screen until I close it manually.  Any expertise out there on settings for Flash imports?

Thanks Phil, I read through best practices and have all but the size correct (mine is 900x555 but in other articulate projects that size hasn't presented a problem).

I don't know about the ActionScript 3, will need to research.  I keep thinking there is something wrong with my import settings combined with slide properties, as each slide behaves differently.  I have 60 slides, 40 or so with swf files imported and some slides will auto advance, some dont, some will act appropriately when I click the "Next" button within the swf, some freeze with an Adobe Flash icon that flashes on the screen.  Yet each swf was produced and published the same way... and imported the same way.  How does the Auto/By User in Slide Properties affect the swfs?  Sorry this is so complicated!  Thanks for your help.

Hi Katherine!

Were you able to get this resolved? I think Phil has the best advice for you- to follow the Flash best practice guidelines. And as he mentioned, Articulate does not support ActionScript 3, but in the meantime, you can incorporate ActionScript 3 content into your Articulate Presenter presentations using the Web Object feature as demonstrated in the following video tutorial:

Curious to know if you got things worked out. Let us know... thanks!

Hi Peter, thanks for your follow up.  I have followed best practices for Flash, and understand the web object and have used that many times in the past -  but it won't work as a solution in this particular project.  I haven't found the resolution yet.  This project was published previously just fine (March 2011), then I updated some of the audio for the flash files (Nov 2011).  This second time around the importing just isn't working.  I've been troubleshooting on and off for a month.  I'm ready to recreate all of my flash in powerpoint.  Not as cool but at least they will work with Articulate.  Thanks again.

Hi Katherine,

Thanks for updating us. If you'd like to Create an Articulate Presenter Package and upload the zip file to us, one of our awesome support engineers would be happy to work with you to find a quick solution. You can do that here:

If you do decide to submit your case, please include the url from this thread as well as any other pertinent information like software versions and system specs. Thanks for your patience, and if you'd like, you can leave your case number here so that I can follow it personally. Happy holidays!

Hi again, Katherine!

Just wanted to follow-up and ask if you were able to find a resolution through the solution our support team sent you. Please let me know, I'm eager to make sure you're sailing smoothly again. Thanks.

And for future reference for others who may experience similar issues, here is the suggested solution:

1. Open a NEW presentation in PowerPoint, save this to a folder on your local drive.

2. Insert around 3 of the same Flash movies in this new presentation by going to Articulate > Flash Movies.

3. Publish this presentation to another folder on your local drive, or to the default folder

C:\Users\{username}\Documents\My Articulate Projects

* * * * * * * *

If the Flash movies played back properly on the NEW presentation, I suggest you import the current presentation to a new file as outlined here:

http://www.articulate.com/support/presenter09/kb/?p=503

Note: Resources, such as audio and video that you inserted via Articulate Presenter into the original presentation will need to be inserted again into the new presentation. You will need to re-insert using Presenter the Flash movies, quizzes, interactions, and narration to the new presentation.

Export the narration from your original presentation:

Then import it into the new presentation:
