Inserted YouTube video won't play on IE or Google Chrome
Jan 30, 2014
I inserted a 90-second YouTube video to my slide using the 'Add Slide Video from Website' option on the Insert tab and embedded the 'Embed' code from YouTube. I used the option to have the video open in a new window (vs. play within the slide) and play when users click it (vs. automatically play). When I published my course and view it with Firefox, everything works well, including the video. But when I try to view the course in Internet Explorer, I am prompted with with security pop-up about restricting running scripts or active x controls. I click the option to 'allow blocked content', and the course will display, but the video will not. I noticed that the url in the video browser window for IE is incomplete; it is missing the YouTube info. But the Firefox browser displays the full url. What is causing the difference, and how do I fix it? Also, when I try to view my published course using Google Chrome, it will not play at all. Is this a known issue? I am particularly interested in getting the video to play in IE, as this is a show-stopper for me. Thanks.

Hi Linda! Can you share some additional information? What version of Presenter ('09 or '13) are you using? What version of IE are you using?
I am on Presenter 13.
I am on IE 9.
Hi Linda!
Sounds like you may need to update your Flash Player.
I'm on the latest version of Adobe Flash 12.0.0.43.
Do you have any other ideas?
Hi Linda!
I'm showing that version to be non-IE:
Flash Player 12.0.0.43 (Non-IE)
It looks like you may need 12.0.0.38
Internet Explorer (Windows 8)
12.0.0.38
Thanks Leslie. Just to clarify, you are saying that anyone using Internet Explorer to view my published Articulate Presenter course (which contains a YouTube video) must use Adobe Flash 12.0.0.38 (not the latest version) in order to view it correctly. Is that correct?
In other words, it is not just me, the person creating this course, that needs a specific version of Adobe Flash. It is everyone viewing it using IE, right?
Hi Linda!
Did that work for you?
Our system specs for both authoring and viewing can be found here. We do not require that they have that particular version, I simply mentioned that to you because it seemed that you were not using a compatible version with your browser.
