Inserting a Camtasia video (MP4) to Presenter

Feb 28, 2013

Good afternoon,

I went through the previous blogs and didn't see my particular issue so here it goes.

I used video dimensions of 964X540. From reading previous blogs that size should be ok. When I view the produced file outside of Articulate, everything looks fine but when I insert the file as a flash movie in Presenter, the items on the far sides of the video's width are cut off for example I show a search bar. The video not only shows the bar but also the magnifying glass icon you click on to start the search. When previewed in Presenter, the magifying glass icon does't show. Same thing with scrolling menus on the left side of the screen. (The content is software screens)

Any ideas?

Hi Carla,

Are the elements you mentioned, the scrolling menus and the magnifying glass, being cut off as well, or just the search bar? I'm trying to figure out from your description if it's one specific side of the content that's being cut off, or if the elements are just missing entirely.

How are you viewing the content when this happens? Are you seeing this in Preview, or after Publishing? If you're seeing this after publishing, does it happen when viewed locally and when uploaded to a web server?

Are you able to share some screenshots of how the content is supposed to display, and how it ends up when viewed in Presenter, please?

Thanks!

Carla Kelley-Gonzales

The scrolling menus are on the far left side and the magnifying glass is on the far right side. The elements are there (at least I can see the “oyee” part of the word “employee” in the scrolling menu.) It happens in preview and in the published version. Attached is a screen shot of the published product. It was shot from SCORM.com. The other one is the properties of the Flash movie...

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

HI Carla,

Thanks very much for the screenshots. If you have published a presentation and notice that some of your slide does not display in the published output it is likely you are not using a supported slide dimension. Please see:

Slide dimensions supported in Presenter ‘09 – Articulate Presenter ‘09 Knowledge Base

If the above link does not cure the issue, then the issue may be related to your DPI setting. Articulate products currently support 96 DPI. If your system’s DPI is set to 120, this can cause erratic behavior using Presenter ’09 and is not supported by Articulate. For more information, see the link below:

Presenter ‘09 DPI support – Articulate Presenter ‘09 Knowledge Base

Let me know if either of those help with the display of the Camtasia video.

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Unfortunately, my slide dimensions (1st link) were already set as suggested and the 2nd link indicated 100% was what is needed on the DPI setting and that was also what was being used. Only other thing I can think of to try to is change the published dimensions of the MP4? I'm game to try anything else you suggest.

Thanks for all your help!

Hi Carla,

I apologize for the delay! If you'd like, we'd be happy to take a look at the file and see if we can suggest some methods that will get this video to display properly.
