Inserting flash movie overrides branching/advancing properties

Mar 27, 2012

Hello!

On a particular slide in my current project, the Slide Properties is set to advance By User. On this slide, I have inserted ONE Flash .swf file with two interactions: 1, an icon the viewer can click for a tip, and 2, an icon that when clicked opens a panel with a list of hyperlinked resources.

I would expect that I could click the tip, then close it with the built-in X, then open the resources, click whatever resources  I want, and close that panel with the built-in X as well. Or I could do the resources first, then the tip.

Then as a user, I would expect to choose when I clicked the forward arrow to move on, and that the player would take me to the slide I've branched to.

This does not work. If I click neither the tip nor the resources icon, and just the forward arrow button, I move on to the slide I've branched to. And if I click the tip icon, my tip comes up and I can X out of it without advancing. However, whether or not I've clicked the tip icon, if I open the resources panel and then click out of it, it immediately sends me to the next slide--not necessarily the slide I've branched to.

This means if I haven't already seen the tip, I don't get the chance to do that.

I found some flash code on the forums that worked when i figured out where to put it in my actions, which causes the slide to advance to the slide I want it to. But I still need some way to over ride the automatic transition to the next slide. It seems as if Articulate is seeing my resource icon's X button as "when user clicks next." I may need some Flash code to override that.

My flash file does have a stop () command. Any ideas out there? I'm a Flash noob.
