Interested in storing and reading variables

Let's say I'd like to capture a choice that a user has made on slide 1 for use later in the course, say on slide 10. I'm curious whether/how I could achieve that in Presenter. Perhaps something that might not be supported out of the box, but is it feasible to write variables (somewhere), and then read them again later in the course, perhaps to make a decision about how to branch? Can I add/modify the ActionScript behind the Presenter output? Thanks!
