Issue with video content when sharing files published to CD

May 11, 2014

Hi!

Several of our team members do not have access to complete online learning through our LMS.  This requires me to publish the files so that they can access them offline.  I've published them to CD and transferred the full folder to a network drive, when our team members click on Launch Presentation they area able to access the online module but videos embedded within are not appearing.

Is this happening because I have placed them on a network drive rather than a local destination?  Ideally, I'd like to keep them on a network drive where I can maintain them if updates are required.  Is this possible?

Cheers,

Tanya

Hi Tanya,

It could be a couple of things. Have you compressed or zipped the published output files? If so, they'll need to be extracted before launching the course.

The network drive could also be the issue. It's strongly recommended that content is run locally, if possible.

If the videos aren't playing properly, have a learner copy the project to their local hard drive and test the course (after extracting, if zipped). If the video plays properly, it's a good idea to have others run it locally as well.

Another alternative would be to burn the project to a disc and have learners run this off of the disc, instead of off of their hard drive. Obviously, you won't be able to update the content after doing this, so it may not be the best solution. If you have a final draft, however, this may be a good choice.

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Thanks for getting back to me.  I hadn't zipped the files, I believe that it was running it over a network.  This particular module has a number of videos imbedded, and I think that it is too much to run from a network.

We've since transferred the files to the person's desktop and the module is working perfectly.

Cheers,

Tanya
