Issues printing certificates with IE

Nov 09, 2015

We have a series of courses that are distributed via an intranet site, as opposed to a LMS. I've structured the final assessment to allow a student to print a certificate of completion when they pass. The function was rolled out using IE 6 and we haven't had a problem. Now students are unable to view or print the certificate. It's not an issue with the pop-up blocker. If a student uses Firefox, they do not have a problem, making me think it's a browser issue. But why would it have functioned flawlessly in the past and fail now? Any ideas why students using IE would have an issue with a certificate generating using Studio 13? Also, students are using a wide variety of IE versions. I've tested functionality with 7, 10, and 11 with the same result...

Hi, Patrick -- Sorry to hear of the issue you and your students are encountering! As you can see here in our System Requirements info for Studio '13, as long as you are using IE6 or higher, you should not be having an issues with your browser version. Have you had an opportunity to review the information on Unexpected or Erratic Behavior in Studio '13, by chance? And can you confirm that you are using the latest version of Studio '13, Update 7

I am using Update 7. I reviewed the document you mentioned. I'm not having any issues publishing the files. Nor is there any issues running the published courses in FireFox. I'm running IE 10. I tested the courses on our web server using IE 7, 10, and 11 with the same behavior: no certificate. I would think that if there was an issue with Flash or Microsoft.Net Framework 4 then the course would fail to run in Firefox as well...

Hi, Patrick -- Yes, there were some issues recently with the Flash 19 player update causing some issues due to corruption, but it sounds like you are experiencing something that may be unrelated. I would recommend that you work directly with our Support Engineers for additional investigation of your issue. I will go ahead and create/submit a ticket on your behalf, and you will be hearing from a member of the Support staff shortly. Your patience is appreciated.

UPDATE: I wanted to stop back in to share the resolution that was reached by Patrick in this case when he was working with our support staff, as hopefully it will be helpful to others who may come across this thread with a similar issue:

"If the course files are re-published using Articulate Studio 13, the certificates generated from the final assessment will display and print using IE 10 and above. There seems to be an issue with newer versions of IE and files published using earlier versions of Studio. Why exactly FireFox is not impacted is beyond me. I am moving forward, identifying courses that now need to be re-published."
