launch_presentation.exe has stopped working

Oct 24, 2011

I have developed a course and I was trying to run it. It works fine on most of the computers but on few computers it just crashes with a message  "launch_presentation .exe has stopped working"

Computer on which it crashed has these details.

  • it is windows 7 Home Basic 64 bit with 4GB RAM
  • I have tried to disable the anti-virus but no effect.

Please , let me know what other info you need and I can provide.

Hi Rajesh,

Presenter '09 is not currently supported on machines running Microsoft Office 64-bit versions.

http://www.articulate.com/support/presenter09/kb/?p=2552

Microsoft recommends installing a 32-bit version, because existing Office extensions, ActiveX controls (like Flash), third-party add-ins (like Articulate Presenter), in-house solutions built on previous versions of Office, or 32-bit versions of programs that interface with Office will not run in a 64-bit version of Office.

Hi Peter,

Recently I have noticed that this issue is still visible on some systems(windows 7 64-bit).

The system having this issue DOES NOT have either of these.

1) MS Office 2010 (64-bit )

2) Click-to-Run versions of Office 2010

The system having this issue have these softwares installed..

1) Adobe Flash Player 11 (64-bit)

2) IE 9(Both 32 and 64 bit)

3) Visual C++ 2008 Re-distributable (64 bit)

3) Visual C++ 2010 Re-distributable (64 bit)

4) Visula C++ 8.0 Runtime Setup Package(64 bit)

5) Windows Live Essentials 2011

6) Windows Live Mesh ActiveX Control for Remote Connections

Any idea which software might be interfering ?

Hey Rajesh,

Content published for Web, LMS, or Articulate Online will not work as expected if you are viewing the content outside of the environment for which is was published. This is due to security restrictions from the local computer, the web browser, and the Flash Player.

If you need to distribute your presentation for review without a Web server or LMS, you should first publish for CD.  Then you can either burn the published output to a CD or DVD for distribution, or do the following to distribute via another method (email, network drive, USB drive, etc.):

  1. Zip the content that was published for CD.  (There is a Zip option on the Publish Successful dialog.)
  2. Distribute the zip file via your preferred method (email, network drive, USB drive, etc.).
  3. Users will need to save the zip file to their local hard drive, extract it, and then double-click the Launch_presentation.exe file.  (Playing content directly from a network drive is not supported.)

If you want to view content as it is intended to be viewed in the environment for which you are publishing (Web, LMS, or Articulate Online), you will need to publish the content and upload it to that particular environment, and provide a link for others to review.

I'd recommend going ahead and submitting a case so our support engineers can take a closer look at it. They'll be able to work with you to find a solution. You can do that here:

http://upload.articulate.com/

Please include the url to this thread as well as any pertinent information that will assist them in helping you. And feel free to leave your case number here so I can follow it personally. Thanks!

Hi,

A update. This issue has been resolved.

This error can come due to various reasons. Few reasons(64 bit ms word, click word etcc) have been already mentioned.

But in my case it was happening due to some other reasons. Basically I was launching the "launch_presentation.exe" from another application(Call AppB). But AppB was a encrypted app. It will decrypt during runtime and launch "launch_presentation.exe". On most systems it was working fine. For some weird reason on some systems it won't work. Even now I don't know why it is not working  on few systems.  Any way I just removed the AppB encryption and now it launches directly. So my issue is gone.

I thought updating, in case some one creates problem for themselves like me :(

Hi,

We just migrated to Articulate 13 and are using update 1. We are also getting this error. As we are not at all technical, we request you to give a solution or workaround.

Also, the error is appearing in other systems. Not in the published system.

The system used for publishing has Windows 7 and office 2007.

Hi Arun and welcome to Heroes!

You'll want to check first that when testing your published file, you're testing within the intended environment as testing it locally could cause you to encounter local security restrictions. Similarly, hosting published output on a network drive isn't supported. Instead, place your content in the location for which it was published. (For example, if you published for web, upload your content to a web server; if you published for LMS, upload your content to an LMS, etc.)

You'll also want to confirm that your computer set up matches up with the system requirements detailed here.
