Link to PDF not working

Hi,
I have created a 5 slide PPT presentation and have hyperlinked to two PDF docs.
I have added them under the attachment feature of Articulate and published the course. Then i added the hyperlinks to the files within the data/downloads folder.
I keep getting an error about cannot find the file....
i have ensured that the file names are short and have added the folder which i am using directly onto the C drive to ensure that the file path is shorter as well.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
Just to clarify: are you linking to the PDF documents from within slides in your presentation? If so, the hyperlink you add within the slide should be:
data/downloads/your-file-name.pdf
If you've done this already and it is still not finding the file, what file is it trying to find? You should be able to find this from the address bar of your browser.
Hi
Here is the link
http://learning.vodacom.co.za/sumtotal/SumTotalDATA/20110329_114845_3680/datadownloadscustomer%20information%20leaflet.pdf
Are you using a .ppt or .pptx PowerPoint file? I have found issues with using relative hyperlinks in .pptx files - you could try changing the file to a .ppt and see if that solves the problem
thanks for the reply
tried that. same error
Hi Nishan, it looks like you are missing a couple forward slashes in your link. There needs to be a forward slash after the word "data" and after the word "downloads", like this:
http://learning.vodacom.co.za/sumtotal/SumTotalDATA/20110329_114845_3680/data/downloads/customer%20information%20leaflet.pdf
hi
you are correct. if i add the / to the link and go to it, it works. however on the PPT when i publish to articulate it removes the /
this is what i end up with:
http://learning.vodacom.co.za/sumtotal/SumTotalDATA/20110329_154141_6959/........DesktopNew%20FolderWarrantydatadownloadscustomer%20information%20leaflet.pdf
i tried setting the hyperlink in different formats as suggested in some articles. Tried:
data/downloads/customer information leaflet.pdf
downloads/customer information leaflet.pdf
customer information leaflet.pdf
Another solution that may solve the issue is to use a url shortener such as tinyurl.com and used the shortened hyperlink rather than the full path. Could you give that a try and let us know if it resolves?
i tried publishing directly to my C drive to shorten the path and also reduced the file name.
it still removes the / from the path
havent tried the tinyurl. how does that work?
Hi Nishan,
There's a bug in PowerPoint that causes the slashes to be stripped out or replaced. Using a URL shortener like tinyurl.com will resolve the issue. There are also some workarounds mentioned in this older thread:
http://www.articulate.com/forums/articulate-presenter/15741-attachments-relative-links.html
hi Brian
how do i use the URL shortner?
Hi Nishan,
Here's how I would do it:
1. Upload your content to your LMS
2. Go to the attachments tab & select each attachment
3. Note the URL that opens
4. Go to tinyurl.com & input the URL of the file
5. Go back into your presentation and add the respective URL that slide
6. Republish your presentation & re-upload it
I hope that helps. Let me know if there's anything else that I can do.
I'm having a similar problem. I attached a single PDF file and put a copy just about everywhere in the folder structure: at the same level as player.html, under data, under data\downloads, and under data\swf.
When I publish and view in Firefox, I am able to view the attachment just fine.
When I publish and view in IE 7, when I try to view the attachment, I get directed to Knowledge Base article located at http://kb.articulate.com/kb/000669.php, which talks about security settings and suggests that I delete a specific line in the player.html file. I do not have pop-up blockers turned on in IE7, and I tried deleting that line, but it didn't help.
Help!
Hi Rosie & welcome to Heroes,
When you published your project, did you publish to CD or did you publish to Web? If you published to Web, trying publishing to CD to see if that resolves the issue. You're likely running into a browser security issue in Internet Explorer that is preventing the content from working properly locally. However, if you actually upload your content online, it will work fine.
Thanks for the welcome, Brian!
Yes, I published to Web, and yes, this jives with what I've been reading, that it's a browser security issue in IE. Are you saying that my viewers will have the same issue if they download the content (if they're using IE)? Wish there were a way I could keep that from happening....
Hi Rosie,
If your users are viewing the actual content online (from a web server), they will not experience the issue. If you plan on distributing your content so that users can view the content without going online, you'll need to publish to CD:

Thanks, Brian, that worked! Am in the process of finding out just how our customers will be accessing the course materials so I can decide whether to publish to Web or to CD.
Brian you are truly wise beyond your years.
It works now! Thanks!!
Hi Rosie & Nishan,
Thanks for letting me know that you were able to resolve the issue. I really appreciate it!
Hi Brian
I am having pretty much the same problem and have tried all of the above including the tiny url solution.
I am hyperlinking off a slide in powerpoint using a tiny url and it works in the articulate preview but not after I publish to the preview version in our LMS (I am publishing to Web)
Help!!!
Where specifically are you trying to direct the link that's not working?
Hi Justin
To a pdf document that sits in a folder in the C drive
Hi all
I had a similar problem with hyperlinks generally when publishing courses and emailing them to people for review.
I discovered that when running a course "published to LMS" from someone's computer - but not actually running FROM THE LMS - none of the hyperlinks worked. "Published for Web" version of exactly the same course, all hyperlinks worked fine. This was on a pretty standard corporate network so possibly something to do with standard security settings.
Thanks
Sasha
Take a look at this article, particularly the section on how to hyperlink to an existing file.

Hi all,
I have Published a course on LMS, Locally all the attachments are working fine. But on server, On-screen attachments are not working, while TAB attachments are working good. The path i used for the attachments is (../data/downloads/file-name)
Need Help.
Thanks

just remove the dots, as far as presenter is concerned when linking you are already in the root
data/downloads/yourfilename will do it
