linking with hyperlinks- not working when published

Apr 09, 2012

hello, i have tried to create a 'branched' solution in presenter- where I have added hpyerlinks in a grid (a click on the correct answer style scenario). it looks really good- ONLY, when I publish the course, the links are not working. on one slide it starts the slide again, on another it links to the 'correct' slide when it should be the 'wrong answer slide, try again' I have set the hyperlinks many times and can't figure out what i am doing- i am sure there is a simple answer to this? please let there be a simple answer to this.... has the slide changed during publishing? can you help? I need to present this as a finished piece tomororw and it's driving me crazy... thanks.

I'm having a problem with some hyperlinks working on a slide and others being sent to totally different slide.

Situation: I have slides where learners have 3-4 choices and they are supposed to pick the correct choice according to the scenario--a basic branching concept. The hyperlink for Choice A works, but the other two hyperlinks for Choice B and Choice C send the learner back to the forth slide in the presentation. There are four of these interactions with this one character.

What I've done:

I double-checked to make sure the hyperlinks were set to the correct slide.

I removed the hyperlink and redid it for the correct slide.

Checked to make sure the title of the slides did not include strange characters like commas (removed slashes)

I checked to make sure the slide properties don't have branching to other slides.

Closed out the PowerPoint file and opened it again and even renamed it.

All hyperlinks are rectangles set at 100% transparency and no outlines

All hyperlinks are at the top of the selection pane

Slides are hidden in Presenter but not in PowerPoint

The underlying graphics are not SmartArt--just simple rectangles.

I even pulled out just the first interaction and copied it to a totally new presentation--reset the links for the new pages. They still send me to the wrong slide. The "correct" slide works, but the two "incorrect" slides don't.

I am totally confused. Been working on this file for two days now.

The images are simple rectangles--not grouped with anything. Also checked to see if they were overlapping. Nope. I really don't want to have the options available for the learners to see in the outline, so unhiding them in the slide properties is really not an option. What befuddles me is that the "correct" link works, but the "incorrect" links don't.

I even tried copying and pasting the four interactions from the larger file into their own document. I reset the links to the correct slides, and when I published this file, I got the same problem.

I'm really confused.

Hi Gayla,

Would you like to send us your files so we can take a closer look? Here's how:

1)  First, create an Articulate Presenter Package of your presentation as described here

2)  Then upload the resulting zip file from your computer on the second page of this form.

3)  In the Comments field, include the slide numbers where the issue occurs. Please be as detailed as possible with your description.

We''ll attempt to diagnose what's happening when we receive your upload. Thanks!

Case #00300225
Got an E-mail from Sid Apolinario that he was in the process of downloading the file to his system--and to give him 24 hours to review the content.

The offending slides are located in the first scenario with George. Fine until slide 32. Then any of the slides that the user has to make a choice the hyperlinks go awry--through slide 53 or so. I forgot to check the other 3 scenarios when I got so frustrated with this scenario.

I'm just trying to finish up this last unit in this course using Articulate Studio; then I'm going to move to Storyline.

I think I figured out the hyperlink problem. I decided to go back and recreate all the hyperlinks for the offending slides. While in the process, I deleted all the links on one of the slides. I don't know what made me think to check, but I clicked on the Choice rectangle and selected Hyperlink. I found that the shape also had a hyperlink--which was sending it to the wrong slide. I went through and removed all the links attached to the rectangles. I'm in the process of publishing now. Hopefully this will work.

BTW: I have definitely become a fan of the selection pane. Being able to hid the original links was a big time-saver. Then all I had to do was unhide them when I was finished. I just hope I didn't forget any.
