Links in Resources Tab Not Working after Publish
Apr 17, 2015
We're experiencing an issue with PDF links in the resources tab of published courses. When we preview the course in Presenter, the links work, but once the course has been published to the LMS, they throw a 404 error. We've viewed these courses using Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox.
Our LMS support team uploaded this document to the SCORM Cloud and tried the PDF under resources and it showed an error in the course when looking for the file.
Any idea how to resolve this, or what could be causing it? The courses in question were produced using Articulate Studio 13, and were produced in exactly the same way that other courses that do function were produced.

Hi Emily!
I get an error that the link has been moved.
Where is this PDF located? Is it on an intranet?
Hi Leslie,
The link is inserted from a drive where it is located.
We have tried moving the the file, renaming it, and copying it but continue to get these errors. It is strange because other uploads similar to this do not get these errors
Hi Melissa! Be sure that you are adding resources as shared here. Doing so insures that the file will be a part of the project when published. Have you published/uploaded the content to test the behavior?
Hi leslie,
I have reviewed the link, and have been uploading and saving the resources in the same way. For some reason I am still getting the 404 error. I have even made a separate folder with all the attachments and selected the resources from there. No clue why only a few files do not want to upload
Hi Melissa!
Have you tried to change the file name/path. Based on what you shared above, perhaps it is the length of the certain files that is causing issue.
All of our files being uploaded come from a desktop file. Most of the attachments have been source from their monthly folders. However it seems that the 2015 folder does not want to upload their pdfs
Hi Melissa!
Can you share a copy of your Articulate Package and the pdf that you are trying to add? If you cannot share here in the forums, please share here privately.
Was there ever a resolution to this issue? I'm having the same problem now and I don't know how to solve it.
Hi Susan,
I don't see a case for Melissa - so I'm not sure if she was able to share her files with our team. Could you share a bit more about what your set up is and what issue you're running into?
Thanks for replying. I think I found the solution. I shortened the file name of the attached resource and it worked. Can you tell me, for future reference, what is the character limit for the file name of the resource we are attaching?
Hi Susan,
First just an FYI that responding via email includes your signature here, so you're welcome to edit the post to remove that information if you wish.
As for the character limit, I'd stick to well below the 260 character limit documented here.
Hi there,
Since this case was a while ago, I believe we resolved it by shortening the resource name, and making sure it was in the same file folder as the presentation powerpoint. Hope this helped.
Thanks Melissa - it looks like Susan figured out something similar!
