LMS Not Marking Course Complete

Apr 19, 2011

I am uploading a very basic "no-frills" course, published in Articulate '09, to SumTotal LMS 7.x.

The course contains a quiz that requires 80% in order to pass.  However the end result even with a passing score of 100%, is an incomplete mark by the LMS.

I have tested with all 4 "Report Status" settings available and still no change.

Our company has spent weeks communicating with SumTotal's customer service in order to resolve the issue.

Today SumTotal indicated that the "Report Status" has to be set to "Incomplete\Completed" to resolve the issue.

Is anyone else having reporting issues/problems with Articulate and SumTotal?

Thanks!

Victor,

We are currently using Sumtotal version 7.5 with Articulate courses and have run into an issue of the course not tracking completion if you close it using the X in the upper corner of the course window. If you use the X it will maintain a status of incomplete and not track any scores. We have renamed the exit button in Articulate to Close Presentation and have people exit this way. No issues reported since communicating this method. Not sure if this is the same problem you are having, but may be worth testing.

Hi Justin,

thanks for the reply! After working and testing with our programmers, we came up with these results:

We have isolated and can define a better Articulate problem definition for our SCO interface processing (in Safari and Chrome browsers that are not working, vs. the ones working in IE or Firefox browsers).

There are two problems:

1.       Online interface for AICC exported SCO’s:
The “Exit” button and processing is not working-
Again, the functionality built into the exported SCO’s, for the “exit” button is not functional in Safari and Chrome browsers. The “exit” button is working just fine in IE and Firefox browsers.

2.       The AICC transaction processing for the “Exit” button should work the same in all browsers when users clicked on the exit button, or close the pop-up SCO window. Since, the “Exit” button is not working in the “Safari and Chrome browsers”, at least the transactions passed through the AICC interface to the LMS should work as if the user clicked on the “Exit” button when they actually “closed” the pop-up Articulate SCO window (which works in IE and Firefox browsers).

I have attached debug logging transactions for both IE sessions and Safari sessions (same user interface processing) for the same exported AICC SCO. The Safari log never defines that user ever completed (passed) the log, where the IE session does. The results from either browser session (IE or Safari/Chrome) should always report the same results in the AICC reporting process. The results gathered from Safari or Chrome browser, never report a “Lesson_Status=P” in the data that is passed back to the program receiving “posted” data defined in the receiving program defined in the AICC_URL.

The “Lesson_Status” is never reported as “=P”, only “=I”.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

If the exit tool isn't working, I would take a look at this:

http://www.articulate.com/support/presenter09/kb/?p=317

The exit tool does work outside of your specific LMS, though, so I would contact them to see if they can figure out why it's not working in those web browsers.

Another thing you could do would be to add a simple one questions quiz at the end of the presentation. Using a True/False question you could change the text to Yes or No and simply ask the end-user if they are done viewing the presentation. Have the Finish action of the quiz close the browser window and see if that works.

I have a similar problem as Victor. My course has a quiz (with all the settings as discussed above and here and there being correct) which is the basis for completion of the course. The course is marked incomplete on the LMS.

So, I tested it on an Emulator (called Reload) and ran the debuglms!!! This shows that when the course reaches the quiz slide, it does not pass the quiz score. And when I check it on the Emulator too, the quiz has not passed any data, and it shows that the course is, therefore, incomplete.

I am unsure if it is an LMS problem only. Because, a similar course works properly. Strangely, this course (second in a batch of seven courses) does not work.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

It sounds like you are not tracking the quiz, which you must specify when you publish. If you think you are, I would remove the quiz, import it again and update your tracking options in the publish wizard to make sure you are tracking the quiz.

Hi Nancy,

So which browsers are you seeing the issue with? Would you mind testing your course in SCORM Cloud to help us determine if the issue is Articulate-related or if it's on your LMS's side? If it appears in SCORM Cloud as well, we'd be happy to take a closer look at what might be going on. If you can't replicate the issue in SCORM Cloud, it's probably an issue that you'd want to take to your LMS team.

The articles here and here may also help clear up common LMS issues.

Thanks!

I know this is a very old thread, but i'm having  issues with completion status as well. I've used Articulate storyline 2 to upload the courses. Many of the users take the course on their ipad in offline mode. For some reason, when they go back online, it doesn't register on our end as "attended" or even Complete. Is there a setting on my end that I need to change? Hopefully someone can reply!

Hi DeAndra,

Welcome to the E-Learning Heroes community! We're glad you're here. 😀

For your Storyline 2 content, how have you published it for LMS? Are you also using the Articulate Mobile player? If so, you likely published for Tin Can API (xAPI) and that content won't work offline. The Articulate Mobile Player app needs an internet connection to track LMS content.

We don't have an offline option for the mobile browsers, and likely that also needs a active internet connection to send data to your LMS.
