Metric for Course Timing

May 19, 2016

Hi E-Learning champions,

I am wondering if there is a metric to predict what the estimate amount of time for the course (designed in Articulate '09) will be based on the number of slides it contains?

E.g. If one of my lessons has 50 slides, and on average we count that each slide takes 2 minutes, the lesson will take 100 minutes.

I am asking this, because we wanted to include this information in the course syllabus to give the learners idea about the time estimates for each lesson.

Can you share any models for this? Thanks so much!

Hi Rezi,

I don't know that I've seen any specific metric or calculation to determine overall course time as you described - but you may also want to account for any media elements you've added such as audio or video and what length that could be adding to the "seat time" for a user. This article has a nice overview of ways to look at figuring that out.
