Microsoft Internet Explorer-How to change Default Browser Settings

Feb 13, 2013

Hello All,

I would like to change the default browser settings that presenter uses for web objects. We are experiencing a lot of problems with IE 8. I would like for my presenter to use Google Chrome instead with publishing Web Objects within the Presenter module.

Is this possible?

Hi Tomeka!

There's no way to "force" a user to open a web object with a specific browser. The course, and web object, will display in whatever browser the user has configured as their default, unless choosing otherwise, when initially launching the course.

What specific issues are you experiencing in IE 8? Here are some common solutions that may be helpful.

Hi Tomeka,

Not quite sure I'm understanding your question. Are you wanting to try to specify which browser uses the web objects? If so, I'm afraid I'm not aware of a way to do this. If you'd like to recommend a browser to your learners, you could always insert a statement near the beginning of the course similar to "We recommend viewing this course in Google Chrome for the best experience".

If this isn't what you're trying to accomplish, can you give me a little more information, please?

Thanks!

Hi Tomeka,

To sort of echo what Pete said, it may be that your default browser is set to Internet Explorer. Also, web objects may not work properly if you view them locally.

If you want to use Chrome as your default browser, you'll need to adjust the settings. However, getting to those settings can vary, depending on the version you're using. For version 24, you would need to click on the menu on the upper right-hand corner of Chrome (it's just below the red "X") and click on "Settings" in the menu. From here, scroll down until you see the section for "Default Browser". If Chrome isn't your default browser, you should be able to change it here.

Now, about the web objects working properly, make sure you aren't viewing them locally, as this will cause issues. If you view a published Presenter '09 presentation on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review this article for details.

Hello,

I have perhaps a similar issue.

My default browser settings on my PC is Firefox (and certainly not IE) but when my project is run locally ( i.e. Launch_story.exe) the links that point to HTML files are opened  in IE and not Firefox.

This is really annoying because of unwanted behavior in IE afterwards.

Is there anyway to fix this?

Thank you for any help or ideas (the underlying problem I have is described below).

Vanya

P.S. What I ultimately need to do is launch a Powerpoint Show presentation (PPSX... not PPTX) by clicking on an object in my Articulate project in a local environment.

The only way I managed to do this is indirectly, i.e. a hyperlink from Articulate to an HTML page that has links to my PPSX file.

I know this is awkward, but everything else I tried (e.g. Javascript) failed.

When the HTML page opens in Mozilla, I can launch the PPSX directly (full screen)

But whet it is IE, it launches Powerpoint with my PPSX file inside to be edited... Unwanted behaviour...
