Movie files not working!?

Sep 19, 2011

Hi all.

I am very new to Articulate and currently learning the package for a new job. I am aiming to include movies/videos in my presentations and have tried it in 3 different ways, however none of them have worked correctly.

I have uploaded a flash video file through the Articulate tab in Powerpoint however when published through Presenter the video does not load. Additionally I have created a 'Media Tour' through Engage, which uploaded successfully however did not work when published. Finally youtube videos have been put into the presentation allowing the user to click on the link and be directed to the youtube website, but unfortunately this also did not work.

All these methods seem to work fine through PowerPoint however this is not the case when it has been published through Presenter and opened through the player.

Has anybody had similar problems in the past or have any idea as to why this is happening, and know of some solutions? Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Hi Harjinder & welcome to Heroes,

Do the video files work as expected when you publish to the web & then choose the View Presentation option?  Does the issue with the videos not occur until you upload the content online?  If so, please see the link below:

If you continue to have problems, can you tell me what file type the videos are and what program you used to create them?

Regarding the link to the Youtube version of the file, this should work as expected.  If it doesn't, then there's likely a pop-up blocker in your browser that is preventing the Youtube site from loading.

Hi Brian. Thank you for the welcome and for the reply.

The video link does not work as expected when published to the web or LMS SCORM through the View Presentation option. The link you kindly provided unfortunately would not be relevant as there is no server involved (which I checked with my manager).

The video is saved as an .FLV file. It was originally shot with a digital camera then altered in Adobe Elements. I have also used youtube videos converted to flv files using online converters however the same problem occurs, they work fine in preview and powerpoint mode (even through the Engage media tour tool) but when published to web or LMS SCORM nothing happens.

Thank you once again for your reply and further assistance, it is much appreciated.

Hi Harjinder,

Would you mind submitting a support case so that we can take a closer look at the issue?

Please create an Articulate Presenter package, then upload the zip file to our server. You can review how to do this here:

Send to Articulate Presenter Package – Articulate Presenter ’09 Help

Upload the resulting zip file from your computer to our server using this upload form:

Articulate Support - Upload Your Files for Review

Please be sure to include a description of your issue, your version of PowerPoint, version of Windows and version of Presenter '09 which you can find in Help and Support -> About Articulate Presenter. Please also include the URL for this thread so we can follow up with you in the forums.

Hi Brian

Just wanted to quickly inform you that the problem above has been resolved. Following sending the zip file through to Articulate I received a response with a few troubleshooting headings and information. It turned out the problem was the file path when publishing had a 'special character' within it (it was actually just one full stop) which Articulate did not like. I saved this in another location on the hard drive where no special characters were present and the Flash movies seemed to work perfectly.

Thank you very much for your help with the issue. Your swift responses and guidance were key to the problem being solved.
