Moving over to Win 7 64 bit - error message

Oct 29, 2012

Hello

I have been using Articulate successfully on Win XP for a few years.  Just moved over to a new computer with Win 7 Pro 64 bit.  I uninstalled Articulate as advised and have just installed from a trial prior to activating again

As I opened Presenter it asked me to install Flash. I installed Flash 11.  When I opened Presenter I got the error message in the attached document.

Normal 0 false false false oNotPromoteQF /> EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE ontGrowAutofit /> ontVertAlignCellWithSp /> ontBreakConstrainedForcedTables /> ontVertAlignInTxbx /> MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

Normal 0 false false false oNotPromoteQF /> EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE ontGrowAutofit /> MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

Please can you advise what is the problem?   (PS I attached a document as it was putting funny characters in the text when I posted in the message)

Thanks very much

Michele

Hi Michele! Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing difficulty with the new installation. We may need to check your .NET framework installation to resolve this problem.

If you are using Articulate Studio '09:
.NET Framework 2.0. Window Vista and Windows 7 has .NET Framework 2.0 pre-installed so you should NOT install .NET Framework 2.0.

Since you are using Windows 7 please install the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 to see if it resolves your issue.
Please note that you must be using  Articulate Studio '09 Update 7 to use Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. You can find out what version you are running in Start -> Control Panel -> Programs.
If you've installed the 4.0 .NET Framework and checked your Studio Update version and you're still experiencing this error, please let us know.
Thanks!
Christine

Hi Michele!

Thanks for getting back to me. That's great, you should now have the most recent .NET framework. If you want to confirm that 4.0 is installed you can check the version by reading this guide. However, the guide takes you through some extensive steps. I wouldn't recommend taking these steps if you're not comfortable with them. If you just downloaded the trial version of Studio '09 today, you should have the most recent trial version.

Go ahead and try to launch Presenter, again, and let me know if you receive the same error message.

Thanks Michele!

Hello Again

I have checked the version in help and support within Articulate and it matches with the numbering for version 8 so I am up to date.

When I open Articulate Studio 09 pro -  presenter I still get the error message described.  Windows goes away and investigates if for me and says

This program requires a missing windows component

Normal 0 false false false oNotPromoteQF /> EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

/* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;}

Yourversion of Macromedia Flash ActiveX Control isn't compatible with this versionof Windows

I have now opened all the other parts of studio 09 - engage, quizmaker and they all tell me to download flash  6 or higher as though they can't find it flash 11.  I then get the same error message as mentioned above when I try to open the program.

Any ideas

Thanks

Michele

Hi Michele!

Thank you for the additional information.

Please go to this site and see what version of Flash is listed. If it doesn't show that version 11 is installed, something may have either corrupted the installation, or the installation didn't complete properly.

If it shows an older version of Flash, please go here and install the latest version.

If the version page confirms that you're using the latest version, you may need to re-install Flash. This knowledge base article will walk you through uninstalling Flash. Once you've finished, try downloading and installing Flash again.

Try this out and let me know if it helps!

Thanks,

Christine

Hello Christine

Well the Flash 11 showed up and it was the correct version for my windows 7.   I uninstalled it using the uninstaller from adobe then I reinstalled from adobe site.

I then decided to uninstall Articulate and reinstall in case it needed everything in situ before it was loaded.

BUT it is all still happening as described initially.

Flash is loaded in C:\windows\SysWOW64

Articulate is loaded in C: Program files (x86)

Is this making any difference?

Thanks again

Regards

Michele

Good morning Michele,

I was looking back over the errors you received and there are a few things I'd like you to try, please.

This support article will walk you through the process of ensuring the .NET framework is communicating properly with Studio '09.

If you encounter this error when launching Engage ‘09, it indicates that there is a setting in your registry which is interfering with applications that rely on the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, such Articulate Studio '09.

  1. Download this zip file.
  2. Fully extract the contents of the zip file to your desktop.
  3. Double-click the UpdatePositiveSign.reg file.
  4. If prompted, click the Run button on the Open File dialog.
  5. Click the Yes button to accept the registry change.
  6. Restart your computer.

Additional information regarding this issue can be found at Microsoft Support.

Another part of the error that stood out to me was regarding ActiveX. I found this support article from Microsoft that will walk you through enabling ActiveX for Office products (including PowerPoint). Mainly, we want to just make sure it's enabled. If it's not, that may be what's causing the errors. Please note, though, this information is for Office 2010. If you have an older version, see this article.

Since this is a new computer, you may also want to make sure that you run Windows Update and also check for driver updates. If you would like more information on Windows Update, or you just want to double-check, check out this Microsoft article.

If you've tried all of the above, but still receive the errors, please open a support case. Our team will be able to investigate the issue for you.

Thanks!

Christine

Hi Michele!

I've been watching your case. I was happy to see that you were able to find a resolution. I just want to share this information with the community, in case any other members experience the same problem.

It sounds like Flash 11 (the latest version for the moment) wasn't installed for Internet Explorer 9, even though Firefox listed the addon installed.

If members are using IE9, be sure to check your Flash version. You can do so here. Michele was also able to find an Adobe page that provides additional solutions, here.

Thanks Michele!
