MP4 files in a presenter 13 course won't play

Nov 21, 2013

I have created a course in 09. There are two slides with mp4 files which play fine. I have published it in 13 and the slides with mp4s on play fine.

I updated some of the course content and colour templates yesterday and now the slides with mp4 content won't play when the course is published. They play perfectly when previewed.

When the mp4s don't play, any content after them also won't play. If I delete the mp4 slides (quizmaker with mp4 embedded and have tried powerpoint slides with mp4 embedded too) the rest plays fine both in preview and when published to LMS.

HELP!

Just to refine what I said above. The mp3 slides aren't stopping the rest working - I just can't pass them until they've "played". They "play" in so far as the reach the end of their 20 second or so length and then I can navigate on to the next part of the course (this makes sense because each slide is locked so the next is only viewable when the previous slide is finished), but the mo3s are still not visible on the screen whilst "playing".

Hello and HELP! I'm having the same problem. Although the videos weren't created in Articulate Replay, today I opened them all and saved them as MP4 using Replay. I follow all the directions in the tutorial as far as inserting them into my PowerPoint using the Articulate tab... and, upon export and upload to the LMS, they do not play back. In fact, all I can see is the playbar on that page.

Hi Ashley

They did publish and play to begin with, but won't since I changed the colours and PowerPoint/quiz maker themes.

I'll email a published zip file when I'm back in the office tomorrow - it's 22:07 here and I don't have my laptop with me.

I have tried putting the same and different mp4s in a new presenter file but get the same problem.

i am working with all files in the default directory articulate studio setup on my c drive on install.

I've tried publishing for lms use (intended environment) and web use but experience the same problems both ways.

Does this info help at all?

Hi Philip,

Thanks, that definitely is helpful. Since you're able to recreate the problem with new files in a new project as well, I'd also suggest starting with a repair of Studio in the event something happened during the update to Studio 13 (update 1 was released November 5). There is also a known issue where mp4 videos won't fully download, and that may be something you'd also want to look into especially if they're longer videos it may seem like the video is freezing the course.

Also, if you'd like to share your files with us, we'll be happy to do some additional testing.

Hi Ashley

It seems to be playing the mp4s fine now. It started working after I took my laptop off the work network and tried it at home off domain. I think the folder articulate installs in by default is part of the roaming profiles on the network so although I was thinking I wasn't working off a network drive - I was because of the roaming profile.

Strange thing is is that it seems to publish fine when in the office now too!

Thanks for your help.
