mp4 video won't play until fully downloaded? Here is a sweet tool

Oct 18, 2011

So I had an Articulate presentation published online that included a bunch of mp4 videos I had created in Vegas Movie Studio 10. I had inserted them as SWF objects.

Problem was that they would take forever to load on their respective slides. What was happening is that the movie was not playing until it had been fully downloaded. Then I remembered this clever little tool I used before when having a similar problem with online video:

QTIndexSwapper fixes mp4 files (of the H264 variety, which most are these days) that will not stream. By running this tool on the mp4 files I had created, I was very pleased to find that this made the videos load much more quickly and start playing almost right away. There is still a slight delay, but it is a huge improvement (hint to Articulate that it would be nice to have some kind of "Loading" indication to the user by the way). So, I don't know if this will help anyone, but it sure helped me!
