Narration in Articulate

Feb 24, 2011

Hi all. I am new to the articulate world so please excuse me if my question is easy. Is there a way to use the narration I recorded in powerpoint in Articulate or narration recorded in Articulate in Powerpoint presentation? I created my PPT and then recorded narration in Articulate but I also need to use the PPT for training and would like to use the same narration from Articulate if possible so I do not have to redo it all.

Hi Tom,

You will need two separate files here.  You can export the audio from each Articulate slide using the Audio Editor.  Then you can import it back into the duplicate powerpoint.

I assume you want to be able to click each specific animation during the presentation.  If that's not a requirement, then you can also use the Articulate presentation itself.  Use the slide-only option to get rid of the Navigation menu if you would like.

But hopefully that Export option gives you what you want.

Sure. What you would need to do is export the audio from your presentation. Then simply copy the presentation to a new directory on your hard drive. Then you can simply import the audio via PowerPoint.

Another thing you might consider for future projects is to record in PowerPoint via Slideshow -> Record Narration. Presenter does support that type of audio so that would mean one less step for you.

This may be along the lines of the same type request.  I recorded narration in presenter and then published for our team to review. Now that it is published, the powerpoint no longer has any recordings attached. I did make some slight edits to slides and will need additional recordings, but what file am I looking for in order to import the narrations I already did?

Hi Anne, not clear on your issue exactly.  But, if you are trying to find the audio in the source PPTX file, you will not find it there.  If you recorded audio directly into Presenter, the audio is housed in the ppta file, which should be typically saved in the same folder as the pptx file.  If they are still together, you should simply be able to preview the slides in Presenter to hear the previous audio.  You will not be able to hear it if you are trying to preview using the ppt slideshow option.

Okay, this question will show you how new I am to Articulate software (I have days of experience, ha). Could you please give me a click-by-click description of how to export and import the audio files? When I view my presentation in PowerPoint/Articulate tab, and click on the Audio Editor, I see an icon for "Import" but not one for "Exoprt." I also do not see anything about "Export" on any of the PowerPoint tabs. So, how do I export these audio files, and must it be done slide-by-slide, or is there some way to do a "bulk" export?

Now to the import function, I see that the Articulate/Audio Editor/Import icon has two options, "Single File" and "Multiple Files." My guess is that the "Single File" option is for importing the audio slide-by-slide. Is that correct? What is the "Multiple Files" option for? Also, in PowerPoint/Insert/Media/Audio there is an "Audio from file" function. Do I use this feature to import the audio, or do I use the Articulate Audio Editor?

Much thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark and welcome to Heroes,

Presenter stores your audio files in a PPTA file. You can export audio using the Audio Editor in Presenter. Here’s how:

In regards to importing audio, you can import a single file or multiple files.  The multiple files option makes it easy to batch import a lot of audio into your presentation & associate the audio with its respective slide.  Finally, I'd recommend using the Articulate functions to import audio.

Hi, Justin. Can you tell me if there is a difference in the audio quality if narration is directly recorded into PowerPoint versus into Articulate? Does one program handle compression, etc. different than the other program? Thanks!
