Next Button issues in restricted '13 Presenter course

Dec 04, 2013

I am updating an '09 presentation that had restricted viewing. Previously when the user hit the next button a box would come up that said something along the lines of "you can only view slides that you have already seen". It appears that this no longer happens in '13. Can you please tell me how to replicate.

Hi Sally,

Presenter '13 controls navigation a the player level. You can still restrict your projects, so learners cannot view slides that haven't already been completed. However, the prompt you mentioned wasn't included with the new version.

There's a tooltip option for the "locked" restriction, but there are no longer pop-up prompts for navigation. More information on customizing the player menu in Presenter '13 can be found here

If this is something you'd like to see in a future release of the product, I would definitely recommend sharing this with our development team. I can certainly see how this would help learners that aren't familiar with how the course restriction works.

In the meantime, it may help to provide a quick note to learners at the beginning of the course, stating that they can't jump ahead in the course.

Thanks!

How do I add this tooltip option? I have the box checked next to "show tooltip on hover", but according to the instructions in link you sent me it's only for the slide names in the menu:

Wrapping long titles or adding a tooltip

If some of your slide titles are too long to display in the width of the menu, you can wrap the text, or you can have a tooltip show the full title when learners hover over it. Here's how:

  1. Click the gear icon (the Additional Options button) below the menu.
  2. When the Menu Options window appears, mark the box next to Wrap long menu item titles to wrap titles.
  3. Mark the box next to Show tooltip on hover to have a tooltip to appear when learners hover over long titles.
  4. Click OK when you're done.

Sally,

Sorry for the confusion. The information you posted is for long titles in the menu - this doesn't apply to navigation.

The tooltip option only works for "locked" navigation, not restricted. In order for that to show up, you'll need to modify the slide properties and change them from "free" to "locked" - a little padlock graphic will show next to the slide.

(Note: You can click on the image above to view a larger version)

With this, all learners will see is a small image of a padlock when they hover over the next button.
