No response when clicking ribbon buttons

Hi, I've got the PPT all finished and now I'm ready to record audio. When I click "Record narration," the little circle appears next to the cursor for a second (to signify the computer is "thinking"), then goes away. Nothing happens.
Same problem with all the other buttons on the ribbon - they light up when I mouse over them, but nothing happens when I click on them. But the app isn't frozen - everything else works.
I'm running Studio 13, just installed the update, with PPT from Office 2010 on Windows 7. Have closed and re-opened PPT several times, also restarted my machine twice.
Really need to get these lessons recorded ASAP. What advice do you have?

Hi Michael!
Typically a repair corrects the issues you are describing here. I would advise that you start with that.
