Not getting audio to save in most recent version of Presenter '13

Dec 24, 2014

I've been an Presenter '09 user and due to a computer upgrade with newest version of Office need to consider Presenter '13.  I downloaded the trial to check it out.  When I record narration and play back I can hear my recording.  But when I go to Preview, it's not there.  Is this a function of the "trial", or is there something else going on?  Before I purchase PResenter '13 I need to know that it's working properly on my computer.  Thanks

I'm now able to record and publish when the Publish Successful message comes up and gives me the option of viewing the presentation it works fine. When I open the folder and click on the HTML5 link, it works fine. When I either e-mail or create a zip file then try to open, I'm not able to open the presentation, and people I e-mail it to can't open the presentation either. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong? Or need to change in my settings?

Thanks

Thank you for your reply.

When I get to the prompt shown below, if I click on View Presentation it works, if I open folder and click on the Presentation HTML it works, if I click on ZIP, then open the zipped file it does not work, If I try to upload it to the FTP, it does not work, If I try to e-mail it, it does not work. I'm using the publish to WEB when I do this.

Thanks

Hi Scott,

When you reply via email, any attachments or images are not included in the post - so if you'd like to share those you'll need to reply in the forum thread itself.

As to your issue, if you're publishing for web then you'll want to test within the web environment. You may want to try one of the free web servers mentioned below to rule out issues with your FTP site:

  • Tempshare: This is a free service provided by Articulate for testing content. It's only a temporary solution for hosting content. Uploaded files will be deleted after 10 days. Note: The article specifically mentions Articulate Storyline content, but Tempshare also works with Articulate Studio '13 content.
  • Amazon S3: Amazon S3 offers free hosting with generous usage limits. If you go over your limit, you'll be charged a graduated fee.
  • Dropbox: Place your published output in the Public folder in your Dropbox account to share it with others.
  • Google Drive: Change presentation.html to index.html, and set the sharing permissions to PublicHere's how.

As far as the zipped version, are you zipping it using the button on the publish successful window or zipping it yourself after the fact?

Hi Ashley

When I get to the prompt shown below, if I click on View Presentation it works, if I open folder and click on the Presentation HTML it works, if I click on ZIP, then open the zipped file it does not work, If I try to upload it to the FTP, it does not work, If I try to e-mail it, it does not work. I'm using the publish to WEB when I do this.

When I saved it to Dropbox based on the message above it would not open.

When you say test in the Web environment how do you do that?  when I had Presenter '09 and e-mailed it to someone, they were able to click on the presentation button and it would run.

When I ZIP the presentation, I'm doing so with the button on the publish window.

I appreciate your assistance, and hope we can resolve this soon.

Thanks

Scott

Hi Scott,

You'd need to extract the files from the zipped output to launch the course using the presentation.html file. Launching it from within the zipped folder will open a new browser window but nothing will happen.

When I refer to testing it within the web environment, I mean the final location where you'll be viewing your content. Testing it locally can cause you to encounter errors or features to not work properly, as you are seeing trying to use the file from within the zipped folder or when it's emailed to another user. If you were to be using Dropbox, you'll want to use the entire published output folder - unzipped - and then click on the presentation.html file to launch the course. Personally, I like testing at Tempshare - because it's the easiest. :-) You'll zip the published output as you have been, and then with the Tempshare link (in Chrome) you can drag a folder right to the upload spot (I think Firefox/IE have an upload button).

Thank you.  it's now working when we e-mail it (had to Extract files correctly) as you pointed out.  I tested it in Tempshare and it worked, which is great.  I need to put it on a secure FTP site so that it plays when opened... not working with Dropbox at the moment.  do you know if there's a special way to upload it?  I saved it to drop box as a ZIP file, extracted the files and can play it in the dropbox file on my desktop.  but when I go online to drop box and click on the presentation it doesn't plan.

Hi Scott,

Great -happy to hear that you've got it working, somewhat. In regards to Dropbox, have you tried uploading the published output not as a zipped file? Just uploading that entire folder? If you'll eventually be loading onto your FTP server, I'd suggest testing there as the final destination instead of trying to link to it from Dropbox.
