Objects in Slide Master do not appear the same as when not in SM.

Feb 26, 2011

I've been lurking here for a while and after reading Simon's discussion about how to resolve flickering when attempting to make slide 'transitions' seemless, I thus implemented multiple slide masters in some of my courses.

Essentially I have objects appear on one slide, and then the next slide has a different SM that has the objects from the first slide in it. This is intended to create a seamless transition from the first to the second and allow me to wipe or build on top of the first slide layout, similar I think to what Simon was doing.

However, the objects do not appear the same in the second SM or the slide based on it, as they do in the in the first slide. I have verified the position and sizing multiple times and am stumped on how to make it identical.

Oddly, I am able to make this work on other areas and 'faked transitions' throughout my course without problem. This makes a second question, are there some best practices, etc, when trying to precisely arrange objects in SMs? Are some more troublesome, etc?

Thanks!

Hi Shawn & welcome to Heroes,

Would you mind submitting a support case to us so that we can take a closer look at the issue?

I would suggest you submit a case by following the steps below.

Please create an Articulate Presenter package, then upload the zip file to our server. You can review how to do this here:

Send to Articulate Presenter Package – Articulate Presenter ’09 Help

Upload the resulting zip file from your computer to our server using this upload form:

The support engineer reviewing my case appears to have misunderstood my issue. They are under the impression that the second slide is an image of the first, rather than an empty slide which is using a slide master that looks just like the first slide.

The advice I was given was to turn the entirety of slide 1 into an image. I can't do this because of animation timings on the first slide.

Can you or anyone help me communicate this to the engineer? I'm suspecting I'm dealing with an ESL engineer (poor use of english prepositions), and am concerned my issue is getting glossed over.

Taking the conversation beyond this point; I've since discovered that Slide Masters do not publish shadows very well, and removing them has cleared up most of my problems. The issue that remains is that pictures appear to shift to the right by a pixel or two during publishing. I currently only have one picture in the presentation, but if I convert the items that I wanted to have shadows to images, then I notice they start shifting as well. Is this a known issue?

EDIT: Should clarify that I'm referring to pictures in slide masters.
