old audio is overwriting new audio

Jul 16, 2012

I'm updating a ppt lesson with new audio.  I recorded the audio (using the recording feataure through Articulate).  When I'm in the ppt and I do a preview, I can hear the new recording.  However, when I publish, I hear the old audio.

I went into "import audio" and deleted the files that were in there thinking that I would be deleting the old audio, however, when I published then there was no audio at all (not to worry, I still have a copy of the original file! Does anyone know what I might be able to do to ensure that the new audio is published into the course?

And as a side note, because I realize it could be relevant, I recorded the audio on one machine (Windows 7) and then had to copy and paste the entire folder (with ppt and ppta) onto another machine (Windows XP) in order to publish it (long story!).

Any help would be SO appreciated!

thanks much!

Thanks Peter,

I had seen that link in similar posts and the Articulate Presenter Communicator is enabled.  What seemed to be the problem is the side issue that I mentioned.  Somehow in moving the files from one computer to the other to publish, the new audio was lost and it reverted back to the old audio when published.  However, when I did an Articulate package and moved that to the new computer, unzipped it and then published, my new audio was included in the published version.  That's my work around for the time being and hopefully it keeps working as the lesson is only in the first round of reviews.

For future reference, is there a best practice if you're needing to redo audio?  Should I have gone in and deleted the old audio files (which were imported, not recorded in Articulate) before I re-recorded the audio?  If you have any best practices, tips or suggestions, please let me know.

thanks so much!

Kristi

Hi Kristi,

Glad to hear you've found a workaround. You may have already seen it, but in the future, if you're working in Presenter and notice that your audio is missing, this article outlines some common reasons and solutions. Also, be sure that your presentation is located on your local hard drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB (external) drive can cause erratic behavior, including loss of resources.

I'm not sure if anyone else is still having this problem, but I experienced this issue as well. It seems when you delete the previous output folder, it solves the issue most of the time. I was also experiencing other issues when keeping the old output folder (objects moving and changing size, etc). This seems to solve the issue in case any one else may be experiencing this.
