PLEASE HELP! Having trouble with video performance

Jan 11, 2012

Could someone from the Articulate team please give me some advice on video performance? Our flv videos are not very large or long, but we are experiencing load times of sometimes over a minute, even from Articulate Online. I tried lowering video quality, but then the video really looked bad. I tried lowering audio mbps, and that did reduce file size, but not very much.  The worst seem to be videos that I put into Quizmaker so we could have a control bar.

Someone in our community must have had experience dealing with this. I really would prefer not to leave our client dissatisfied with us and Articulate!

Thank you,

Ellen

I would make sure that you are using this calculator to determine dimensions and audio and video bitrates for your environment:

I would also test, if possible in more than one physical location. Like if you are having slow loading times for videos, is this only happening with people viewing your presentation in a low bandwidth environment?

You can also use something like HTTP Watch to analyze your internet traffic and see what specifically is happening when the video is loading. Maybe you will see something there:

You may also want to take a look at this article which outlines some additional troubleshooting steps you can do:

Hi Ellen.

If the issue is with low bandwidth users, I would encourage you to check out the preloader in addition to considering reducing the dimensions and/or audio and video bitrates.

If the audio is critical but the video isn't, you could always do a separate version of the content with just the audio rather than using FLV.
