ppta files

Hello,
My PowerPoint presentation has 2 files; the .ppt files and the .ppta. I went in to publish the presentation and then 'veiwed' the presentation. There was no sound. I look into my folder and saw only those two files. So, I knew my audio files were fine because I did not see an 'old-ppta' file of any sort. I then went into 'audio editor' and my audio files are gone. What is going on? Where are my audio files if there is not 'old-ppta' files in my folder? All of the files where there a couple of days ago - today I go in to make changes to a slide, I republished only to find no sound and no audio files.
please tell me I did not lose my audio files... where could they be?

Hi Peter,
I have review all of the items in the attached article. The presentation is on my local drive. The latest version I have is v6.3.1103.112 Pro. So, not sure what happenend. Thank you Peter.
