Presenter '13 hangs on the last slide during publish

Jan 07, 2014

Hi,

I had several instances of Presenter '13 hanging on the last slide during publish. I tried publishing a deck with 567 slides (14 MB) and the other with 799 slides (18 MB). Even after leaving them overnight it still would continue past the slide. No error message given and the presentation can only forced close because the exit buttons don't work.

My questions are:

- What is the possible cause of this?

- Is there a way to fix it?

- How long does it usually take to publish a 500-700 slide deck?

Thank you in advance!

Edleen

Hi there Edz,

First, I would definitely recommend checking the location of your project files. Try to make sure that you're not working off of any external sources, that there are no extra spaces, underscores or any other special characters in the file names and check the content for the last slide - especially if this is where both projects are freezing/stopping.

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

If you are working locally, can you tell me if this happens with a new, blank presentation?

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Thanks for your reply. The PPT presentations in question are still exhibiting the same error, even after renaming the file, publishing locally, and editing the last slide (originally has both text and graphics, so I tried removing the text and just kept the graphics). I am able to publish other decks, particularly smaller ones. Can it be a problem in the file size? How long does it take to publish a 500-800 slide deck?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Edz,

The publishing time will vary depending on your machine, the file size, the content in the project and so on - there's really no way to give you an estimate on that.

It sounds quite large, though and that could be contributing to the problem. If you create a copy of the presentation and cut down the amount of slides, or just remove that final slide, do you see any improvement?

If other projects are publishing successfully, it could be an issue with the size, the slide, or the project may be corrupt.

If cutting down the size doesn't help, try following the steps in the article below:

Hi Christine,

I tried the solution in fixing a corrupt file but it was still hanging during publishing. I also tried deleting the last slide and cutting down the number of slides, but it didn't help :( But as I've mentioned before, the problem doesn't happen to ALL decks. But right now, it already happened to 3 decks.

Thank you.
