Presenter 13, unable to extract audio from most narrated PPTs.

Dec 23, 2013

I'm a long time, every week user of Articulate presenter. Been using it since before Studio 09.

I just got Studio 13 about a month ago, along with Office 2013. I'm using Windows 7.

I process online lectures from PPTs narrated by faculty. They send me their PPTs and I put them through Articulate to get them online.

So far, of the 20 or so narrated presentations I've tried to publish, only 1 or 2 would actually pull the Audio out of the PPT when I previewed. (BTW, I was REALLY hoping to get a button in 13 called "extract audio" rather than having to preview the whole thing to get the audio)

I'm ending up having to make copies of all the PPTs, change the file into a zip and manually extract the audio so I can re-import it using the articulate import audio tool. It's like running around the block the long way to go next door.  I really hoped this kind of problem would go away with the new version, but now it's worse than ever.

It does it on files created in PPT 2003, PPT 2007 and PPT 2010. I don't know about files created in 2013, I was one of the first to have it.

Is there anything I can do to fix this, or will I just have to do this annoying extra step nearly every time from now on?

Hi Caelyn!

Sounds like your faculty is just utilizing the Insert > Audio feature of Powerpoint, which is not a supported audio feature.

For the best results, we recommend recording or importing narration in Articulate Presenter

You can read this article for information on how you can extract that audio, although I'm not confident that it's any 'easier' than what you have been doing.

Hi, Thank you for your response.

They all use the Slideshow/Record Narration tool in PowerPoint. We've known that insert audio wasn't supported for a quite a while now. (which is disappointing that your software doesn't support every feature of the product it's designed to integrate with)

I'm afraid they don't have the option to use the Articulate tools for recording narrations, cause as I said before, I do nearly all the Articulate processing for them. We can't afford to buy a copy of Articulate Studio for every faculty member, or even just a copy of Presenter. It's too expensive.

The problem still stands. It seems most but not all narrations recorded using PowerPoint's own Record Narration tool in PPT versions from 2010 back to 2003, aren't being recognized by Articulate presenter. The part that's double annoying is that I can't find any reason why there are a few that work. I don't know what the difference is that makes some but not all work.

I'm having the same problem only I did use the Articulate Presenter narration (NOT Powerpoint) to record the video. The audio can be heard in preview mode but not when I publish for LMS in Presenter 13. I checked all the points in your article on audio issues and none apply. I exported the audio files and reimported into each slide--still no audio. I do not have the time or money to re-record all the audio for the many, many articulate presentations I built in '09. If I had know about this problem--if you had ANYWHERE mentioned that this was an issue--I NEVER would have upgraded. Please help!
