You can still use the software with PowerPoint 2010 on a 64-bit machine, just use the 32-bit installation of Office. The operating system installation (64-bit) makes no difference, as long as the installation of office is 32-bit.
I currently use Office 2010 on Windows 8 64-bit and I run Office as 32-bit.
As far as I know, there aren't any current plans to change this for the 64-bit version of Office, but I know we have received a lot of feature requests for it.
As long as you use the 32-bit installation, you should be fine with the PowerPoint upgrade.
