Printing Hand-outs or notes in Black and White

Using Power Point 2010, I open the print screen via the File>Print menu.

I make my selection of what I want to print.  Because I am using a black & white laser printer, the grayscale option is automatically selected.  I change that to "Pure Black and White". 

Immediately after I click on the print icon, the "Pure Black and White" flips back to "Grayscale" and the backgrounds are printed.

Is it me?  Is it a setting someplace?  Is it the template? 

I have tried the settings in "under the View tab but none seem to help.  I can view in Black and White but I can't seem to print.
